It's not as bad as you'd think but it's still pricey
If you did what I did then your converter is possibly damaged, and your pump is probably gonna need replacement. No way of knowing for sure but if your input shaft sheared then that's a better sign than hearing audible harsh grinding

Level10 has some explaining to do to me because their PR guy told me that "it's all billet, all the internals are billet" Talking to TCI about getting one of their shafts instead and getting all my repairs and the new parts that are worthless to me paid for by level10 since this is their screw up

When it craped out the thing didn't make a sound the car just stopped accelerating and i immediately let out of it and rolled to end of track guess if there is good news its not making a loud grinding noise. The noise it makes is not constant it at times makes no noise then low slight clutter noise it doesnt change when going from idling in park to any gear that's giving me slight hope of it not being extreme but who knows until trans is out.
I think the reason some companies do not use a billet shaft in theory they would prefer the shaft be a weeker link than the trans internals therefore if it breaks the odds are it will not destroy the entire trans.. i do not know of any company that uses billet gears in there transmission for the 5r they only use specific billet parts if they used billet throughout trans it would be more expensive and not many would be willing to pay price. Example billet gears for a 3 valve oil pump are over 300 for gears alone so its much less expensive to cryo treat stock gears also some may be REM isotropic finishing the stock gears but i doubt it makes the gears look close to billet and there is benefit if they would do it along with cryo treat it would be nice..

Might want to upgrade to a "built" trans from a reputable place. AND a stall convertor also.

I have the "Street Fighter" trans and their 3000 stall. Both have been back out of my car and rebuilt TWICE in a little over 1,000 miles.... Hopefully it is right this time. They did have issues with the clutchs that were installed in the first run of trannies...which mine was one of. Convertor ate itself twice too. First time tranny made weird rattling noises....they said convertor came apart & clutch hub was smoked. Second time it made WEIRD whirling/whining noises when moving..NEVER sitting still...AND did it even if you shut the engine off.....and coasted along in neutral???? All they said was convertor was messed up again & clutches in trans.......! Supposedly the convertor was making the whirling noise...even when the engine was shut off/trans was in neutral........coasting down the road???? When i picked it up from installed/tuner it was during a blizzard. Didn't even testdrive it. Shop ran it on the chassis dyno then i loaded on my trailer. It's been in storage since.

Sounds like a serious case of bad luck and a real pain you have had..
Let's me know i cannot complain about mine yet.

I think you will find the pump is gone also and you better check the converter closely.

Earl

Yep they told me it needs a pump, input shaft and the converter will need to be cut open and gone through.

JP08GT. Is Brenspeed swapping your trans??? They are very good at tunes for a trans.

Brenspeed originally installed the trans when I had them do my B302 engine / supercharger the TQ is rediculas on my car so I am going to upgrade the input shaft while in it.
I am in Georgia so I would have had to flat bed the car to Brenspeed with it being broke.
I also found out that Besides TCI - Art Carr also has a Billet 300M input shaft for the 5R trans they want like 275.00 for it.

I would stay away from Art Carr. Art is no longer associated with the company and I have heard very bad things about their products.

JP08GT...

Sorry to hear about your 5R55S.

Who built your 5R55S? Level 10? (If you do not mind me asking)...

I hope you get her up and running soon! :thumb2:

Keep us posted on what you do!! Hope you're back going real soon!
I will keep you posted on my expieriance with Level10 soon, I dont know how fair level 10 is on there warrenty process but I will know very soon.. I am suppose to have a 1 year warrenty and I only have 7-9k on the trans and lees than a year old I am also running Level10's (Pats) transmission tune Brent sent my tune file to Pat for them to adjust the trans portion of the tune to level10 specs. so we will see..
I am also useing level10's tq converter purchased it all at once and installed it at the same time with my new engine.
so we will see & know how well they stand behind there products and if they try and play the blame game although i have all level10 hardware and tunning and went by there instruction and specifications from the start.

I was told by John at Level10 when the did my tranny that I did not need a billet input shaft and he recomended me against the billet shaft.. that they had cars running high 8's with the trans i also was told that it came with a 12 month warrenty. todays news tells me that level10 does not warrenty or stand behind there products therefore i can no longer recomend anyone to do business with them.. they are charging me full price on parts.
I recomend doing your reaseach with trans builders before going with a builder and try to go with a company that will be fair to you after they sell you on there particular trans.

Man that sucks, I can't believe they are taking that stance. I doubt anyone from this board will ever do any business with them in the future.

Last week they told me they were going to take care of it under warrenty this week the whole story has changed they keep flip floping like a fish out of water.
I would not go with them again if i had it to do over but who would have known you live and learn.. I have never heard a company make more excusess on why the input shaft broke jumped from blaming the converter > its there converter then blaming my tuners tune and Pat tunned it I would consider them not a reputable honest company to do business with.
They are telling me they put a 300M billet input shaft in they are charging me 298.00 for the shaft.

And it continues: they called me with the bill this morning and tell me the trans has been gone through and it will ship tommorow I clearly ask them about the input shaft they said they put a 300M shaft in I then ask him was It a stock shaft or a billet 300m shaft he says 300m.. keep in mind by this point i trust nothing i am told.
Then I called him back and told him that I wanted him to forget the billet input shaft and put a stock shaft in it and I will put my own 300m input shaft in to be sure I knew what was in the transmission. Thats when he him hawed around and said they are having some special made blah blah blah it would be about a week before they had the 300m shafts?? you are kidding me right?? did I just catch them trying to sale me a stock input shaft for 298.00? and they told me it would ship tommorow?? so how was my trans going to ship with the billet input shaft that they charged me for?.

OK its a new day I have been able to speak with Pat it appears that the PR guy has just been throwing me a bunch of mombo jumbo.. Pat says they are doing some more solonoid updates and some things that will improve my trans its a second part of revisions they found after they first built my trans he also said they were requested by muscle mustangs and fast fords to address more issues with the 5r since level 10's last artical and they have done improvments to address input shaft & 3rd gear band as well and are doing anouther artical in mustangs and fast fords magazine that shows these updates. we will see thanks for listning to my stress..
