Well that's a little different.. ;) Pretty cool of them to take care of it for you, even if it took a while. Stupid of them to forget the damn blocker ring though!

It would have saved me over a month if I just did it myself though lol, even though they did give me all the parts I asked for when I redid so I guess I kind of came out ahead.

Either way I'm sure a normal customer with a fairly stock car would have been pretty pissed off about it ;)

And if the car is paid off?

Did the OP ASK ford to pay a month’s worth?

What about the dealers hands being tied waiting for the ford hotline to instruct them on what to do next? What if that tech that was supposed to come in called out sick?

How about if ford isn’t going to pay for a new tranny? What if the dealer can’t do anything yet until they know they will be paid for the warranty work?

There are too many what ifs. The car has been there for just about 1 month not 3 months. Like i said, i would be pissed too. My car last Saturday had to be towed to ford because my flywheel bolts had backed out. Bolts came in Thursday. Ford wouldn’t pay the dealer to crack open tranny until the bolts arrived and THEN they could see if any other damage was done. i got my car back yesterday. The dealer gave me a rental. Should I demand 1/4 my car payment be made? lol...

Give the dealer some slack, if you don’t like that dealer, go to another one. I had to. I went to 3! Before the third actually agreed to give me a rental and actually wanted to work on my 3 week old car. One of the dealers actually said "ford is currently working on a fix, no recommendations at this time" and at that point the cops were called after I almost beat the guys ass for not wanting to check my car in and basically told me there’s nothing he could do until ford came out with a fix. So i out of all people can REALLY understand how some dealers can be real assholes. Some are not, and every situation is different. Be patient OP, I’m sure ford will make it right.

Go to another dealer or lemon law it. Whatever you care to do.
Yep, you seem to be one that people should take advice from. Good job tough guy.

My patience has run out.. There's no excuse for Ford not replacing the trans, or fixing it in a reasonable amount of time. A month is absurd for someone to be without thier brand new car, no matter how you rationalize it. Fix it, and get it back to the customer asap! Or, bad things can happen..

Here's a thought, Take you a jack, creeper, and a toolbox and set it beside a new Mustang on their lot and make it look like your working on it.

When they come out and ask you wtf your doing tell them your getting a transmission to fix your car....lol

*UPDATE* Picked up the car, but, it's still not right..

I called the dealership yesterday, as the car was promised to be finished on Wednesday. The service writer, whom I have known for 10 years, told me that it might not be done today. I flat out told him that I didn't care what it took.. that it wasn't an option for the car not to be finished today. If it meant me going over there and finishing it myself, or them rolling it out so I can load it onto a flat bed and bring it to another dealer.. One way or another, the car was coming out of there.

We made a phone call to one of the managers afterwards, and my buddy (who is friends with the guy), told him the whole situation. Apparently, he lit into some folks in the service department, and they pulled a few people off of other jobs to get it finished. I really hate to be like that, but, I had enough. I've been strung along for a month and didn't want to hear it anymore.

I picked the car up at 6pm, filthy, with greasy hand prints all over the fenders/hood, dirty ass paper floor mats on both sides, and the plastic covers that they put on for test drives just thrown on the seats. Whatever.. I got in and left.

The transmission is 100% quiet, shifts better than it did before, and operates absolutely perfect. I noticed that they had put a different trans fluid in it than what it came with, though.. I can't remember the long ass part number, but, it's different than what was in there originally. I think someone mentioned this a while back about Ford possibly putting the wrong fluid in from the get-go. Anyway, it shifted fine, and was noise free. I put about 50 miles on it, taking it easy.

I get home, and about 2 hours later, I hop back in to run to town for something. When I get back home, I notice a spot on my driveway, about the size of a softball. Sure enough, it's fucking transmission fluid.. I got under the car, and there it is.. splattered all over under the car.. It's dripping from the cross member. I couldn't even tell where it was coming from. I'm sick to my stomach at this point.. I can't do this again. I'm hoping it's a damn seal for the output shaft/pinion.. because I'll replace the damn thing myself. If it's leaking from the case, then, it's gotta go back. WTF man..

I am sorry to hear it is leaking fluid. I am happy for you that it is functioning properly. Please PM me the part number for the fluid when you get a chance.

:(

Options from my POV:

1. Lemon the car and get an auto.
2. A different dealer replaces the trans with a new unit.
3. Ford pays for the part and you replace.

Sorry to hear this....

I hate to tell you this but I purchased my car 9/11/10 and at 500 miles all this started. It has been in 7 times... It's at another dealer now... Today is a week. The car has 3000 miles and they have replaced the clutch assembly and flywheel twice. The transmission fluids were changed twice... And finally the transmission was replaced 2 weeks ago. This transmission shifts with less grinding but whines, and I have come to stop lights and been unable to engage 1st gear. These same issues with the MT82 have been going on since 2004 when theY started using it in the Land Rover Defender and Ford Transit Van overseas. If Ford can't fix this in 7 years, I doubt they will any time soon. Since not everyone is experiencing this, I can't help but wonder if it's a quality control issue at the factory in China. FYI: there is a thread on this at allfordmustangs.com with over 1000 posts.

Now, I'm being accused of breaking the steering wheel in our loaner car.. wtf?! I got a text this morning form the guy that I know in service, asking me what happened to ths steering wheel in the Focus. I'm confused, so I call him, and he tells me that it's broken at the top. I drove the car twice.. My wife drove it to and from work for a month. She never mentioned anything about it being broken, and I certainly never noticed anything with it. How do you break a steering wheel anyway?!

But anyway, I let him know that the trans was leaking, and he wants me to bring it back in. I don't know if I want to do this again..

The fluid that was in the trans originally was XT-11-QDC. We compared it to a new bottle on the shelf, and it was identical in color and consistency.

Ford supplied XT-M5-QS for this transmission job. I visually checked the bottles myself.

The new fluid makes this transmission shift COMPLETELY different than before. It has not made a single grind or notchy shift since I got it back. I can literally shift it with 1 finger. It might be a LITTLE bit harder to go in gear when cold, but, nothing like it was before.. and certainly nothing out of the ordinary. Honestly, I'm amazed at the difference, and as long as this thing holds up, I think I'm going keep it instead of getting an auto.

So that is a for sure thing now? Ford admits that different fluid makes the transmission better?

Ive seen a few people say that this was the case, but with the problems I wasnt going to possibly void my warranty by running different fluid because some guys on the interweb said it was okay.

Absolutely correct that when the tech ordered fluid for the transmission job, they sent the XT-M5-QS. I looked at the bottles, and they all had this part number on the back label. Ford didn't say anything about the fluid.. and I'm sure that they quietly made the change somewhere along the line. But, that's what they sent for sure.

Yeah, I had a small transmission problem.. Trashed syncrho/gear, bearings, etc.. All minor issues with a brand new trans.. lol..

No, this isn't my website, but, this is my thread. If you don't have anything to add, then get out. It's that easy.. Jesus..

lol.. Seriously? This is my wife's car, for starters. If I want to beat on something, I've got a 700hp '04 GT. I'm 30 years old.. Not some kid who just got a Mustang, and beat it to shit. The clutch still looked brand spanking new for Christs sake. Yes, I own a performance shop.. Does that mean that I tore up a brand new car? Hell no.. I've been in business for 10 years, and yes, I do give warranties on certain parts.

Had the tech taken this thing apart, and found a smoked out clutch, bald back tires, and shredded gears/internal parts, that would have been a different story. This car has been to the drag strip twice, and run a total of 4 times. I do not street race, and honestly, I barely drive the damn thing. My wife commutes 25 miles per day to/from work. This isn't a case of abuse.. and I promise you, I'm no fucking chump. If I tore this car up by being stupid, I would have fixed the damn thing myself. I'm more than capable of doing so.. I hate it when people beat on something, then, trying to warranty it after they break it. I know, because I have customers that try to do it to me ALL THE TIME. I wouldn't do that.. This was never an issue of neglect/abuse.. So, I don't know why this is even being brought up.

Once ford opened it up its their problem, abuse or not, so that whole debate is moot.

This is very odd...mine just got out of the shop (detailed story on the gigantic thread at AFM) and they put in the QDC fluid, saying that was what should be in the car but that's not what was in it from the factory. Mine had a November build date. Since they put in the QDC (15W) instead of the existing QS (90W) there is a noticeable difference in the ease of shifting. Definitely more gear wine though. That's weird that Ford did the exact opposite on our cars. I really don't think they have a clue as to what they are doing now.

I know most don't want to read through the 1,000+ posts at AFM, so just to sum it up: I wrote the CEO an email, got a response, car went in, they replaced the clutch with the same PN (even though nothing was wrong with it) and replaced the existing fluid with the QDC. All of this was directed by Ford HQ in Michigan. It really surprises me that they put the QS in your car. Definitely not doubting you, just weird.
