I want to start a motor build (N/A) and at the moment I'm not sure the best route. The intended use is a street/strip car. I was thinking of going crate 5.0, harness, PCM and alt. kit OR an aluminum big bore motor around 323 ci. I've already got a set of ported 3V heads, FRPP intake,TB and a set of SPR cams if I go the 3V route. If I go the 5.0 route, I'm sure I would opt for the Boss intake, AR headers and possibly change cams. It seems like cost would be about the same. Which way makes more useable power and why ?

The big bore shortblock I was looking at from Livernois is like $7600. Then you start tacking on head studs, gasket set and so forth and your over $8,000 about the price of a crate 5.0 and harness. I would think the power output be close but I could be wrong, not enough 5.0 knowledge, yet.

you do realize it costs over 10k to swap a 5.0 into an older s197 big bore is much much cheaper

The big bore stroker will be far fewer headaches and has enough potential to go plenty fast. With the big bore there's no worries about gauges working, heater hoses fitting, etc...

motor alone is 7k control harness is 1400 thast 8400 already, alternator kit is a couple hundred, and not including odds and ends on things. the swap isn't eays either as the engine control harness is that wat you would find in a ratrod it's just to get the engine running and ignition it doesn't have things for the dash so it's going to take a lot of fab work not to mention can you use your stock ecu if you cant tack on a few hundred more. add tax and you're damn near if not over 10k

i will be building my own 323ci big bore with the livernois rotating assembly and M-6010-BOSS50 iron block and with odds and ends it will be far less money wise and headache wise IMO.

build it yourself and save a few grand

It seems like the Big Bore Stroker would definately seem much easier to do and maybe all the power I will need but can anybody tell me if you max out a big bore stroker with a streetable 11 to 1 compression, will it compare to a 5.0 with some headwork, cams and intake.

If you're just starting a build, it's gonna be hella expensive either route in order to build horsepower/TQ.

If you like all the amenities of your current configuration....ie..functioning dash, lights, A/C....etc..etc., then if it were ME, I'd be contemplating a 5.4L SVT install vs. Big Bore Stroker. The 5.0 wouldn't even be in the running.

If you are mechanically adept, get a 5.4L and drop that in. Mucho Powa!!!

5.4L 4V FTW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11111111111111111:beer:

I like the idea of a 5.4 4V motor but I doubt my current harness and computor will work with that combo. Will it ?

No it won't but Boozshey knows all the ingredients to make it happen. Much cleaner install than trying to make the 5.0 work IMO.

Definitely the route for me!

Read this

And this

AND this

I'll say it again.........5.4L 4V FTMFW!!!!!!!
