As far as buying aftermarket parts what are some of the differences in the 2005-6 & 2007-9 Mustangs?

I had a 2002 GT and things like the water pump and transmissions were different in 99-01 & 02-04 Mustangs.

I’m new to S197 world so I’m learning new things. Had my 2002 GT for 11yrs, ended up with 438rwhp & 428tq outta 2.1 KB @9lbs

There were some minor upgrades and features added. Just a quick few examples, 05-06 had a different coolant crossover than 07-09s, 07 was the first year of tpms, 08 was the first year for ambient lighting, 08-09 had hids as an option, November of 08 saw a redesigned head and coil boot, 07+ gt coupes got a factory k member brace, 07 was the first year for an aux port...

Edit: I didnt read your question all the way, as far as buying aftermarket parts well I really cant think of an example where a part would be different. I think some supercharger kits are different between 05-06 and 07-09 due to different coolant crossovers.

The only aftermarket part differences I can think of are:

1. Different coolant crossover from 07 onwards so thermostat and coolant hoses also different. Not really an upgrade but a simplification. Supercharger kits may be specific to 05-06 or 07-10 and require conversion to a different crossover if you have a different model.

2. Charge motion control valves (CMCVs) integrated into intake manifold for 09-10 so if you want to delete them, you need to get delete plugs for those models instead of delete plates.

3. Models built from 1st December 2007 onwards had revised heads with one-piece spark plugs & different COPs.

4. 09-10 models had more reliable Denso alternator which can be retrofitted to earlier models.

5. Aftermarket wheel rims for '07+ need to accommodate TPMS sensors.
