12.58 at battery , can hear clicking sound around SBJ area. Try a few minutes later starts right up and then ok after that. a TMPS sensor warning came up once and hasn't come back. Checked the area around the SJB bone dry and no indication of moisture in the area, super clean and dry. Pulled the grey plug immaculate, 36k miles run's beautiful it was well maintained and I believe garage kept its entire life. Bought it used 5 days ago and drove it home in a torrential downpour for an hour. Still dry inside. I checked the battery terminals and recleaned. I don't want to pull the SJB if I don't have to I'm getting a bit ancient and not looking forward to having to do it especially since there is no indication of moisture and water intrusion.

Just because there's 12.58v at the battery, that doesn't guarantee it's good. If the battery has a high internal resistance due to sulphation, it'll register a good voltage even when the cranking current amperage is insufficient to start the engine.
The proper way to test the battery is with a load test. Otherwise check how low the battery voltage goes when you attempt to crank the engine.

yes, just at the terminals engine off. After the initial no crank after a few minutes it starts and it's it's fine after that...thank you so much for the reply. seems to be an overnight problem

The only thing I would add to 'check' are the ground wires, the starter relay, and even a possible dead spot on the starter. How old is the battery? Without any other anomalies, the battery would be the first suspect even if it seems ok. Just thinking out loud.

If it is a bad battery, (or corroded terminals) the clock would reset trying to start it. And/or turn on headligbts when it wont start and try to crank it. Did the headlights go very dim?
A weak baterry does not make one click sound, but a rapid clicking.
Next time it wont crank, WHACK the starter with a BFH.

Ok thanks I'll try when I try to start it, should I check amp output if the voltage is good? Thanks for the reply
There is really no point in checking amps. Volts good amps will be good. Volts bad, so are the amps.
