I am trying to get a straight answer. I have a new set of American Racing Headers , in 304 SS. I have heard arguments , that it isn't worth getting stainless heads ceramic coated. Ive read that they insolate heat better than mild steel tubes do. My primary consideration is keeping underhood...

When considering ceramic coating on headers, does the color of the coating matter with regards to heat reduction in the engine compartment ? I have a choice of black, cast iron or silver.

Im not so lucky. Im trying to figure out how to pass emissions with a Procharger and long tube headers. Again, my tuner is very knowledgeable, with tunes for power and safe usage. But he isn't that familiar with Ontario Drive Clean laws.

I thought I had to get it tuned with the sensors all on. That's why im thinking of installing the anti fowlers. If the sensors are turned off, it will read a "not ready" which would fail the test. Correct ?

Ive seen where some guys restrict the opening, because a lot of the non -foulers are restricted to less than the 1/2" size required to install the sensor.So they drill out the last extension, and leave the first one alone. And there is one company who sells non - foulers with different sized...

Here are some pictures, to better clarify. At present, I have a 1/4" hole in the end of the sensor extension that screws into the H pipe.

The extensions come with a hole in the middle.It is large enough to clear the sensor probe ( end) . I want to restrict the amount of exhaust flow that the sensor actually sees. Many of the extensions ( spark plug anti fowlers ) have a smaller hole in the end. Guys drill them out to accept the 02...

I contacted American Racing Headers and they told me that the only coating worth using for under hood heat reduction with their headers is Swain Tech. Any comments ?

I tried that header wrap once. What a MF to put on. And I know I said Im not concerned about looks as much as practicality, but I draw the line at that ugly header wrap lol.

Where I am, they do a visual inspection and then plug into the OBD II system. But back to my question. Regarding a new pair of 304 ss headers. Is ceramic coating going to reduce underhood temperatures enough to warrant the cost ? And are all coatings alike ?
