07 GT500 coil packs with 105k miles: Test? Replace? Leave 'em?

I re-gapped the new motorcraft plugs, from .044" - down to .036" and it runs quite a bit better. The initial throttle response is still sluggish, but quickly picks up over 2200 rpms. Then it feels strong. I may try .033", but for now, it is what it is.

07 GT500 coil packs with 105k miles: Test? Replace? Leave 'em?

I can regap them down a bit, but how did the old plugs work so well at .060"?

07 GT500 coil packs with 105k miles: Test? Replace? Leave 'em?

So, after changing the plugs, my car is not accelerating well. All I did was change the plugs, with stock plugs. The only differences are the gaps of the 100k plugs are (well worn and rounded ).059 ~ .060, and the new plugs are .044. Would you just regap the new ones to .059? Or put the old...

    Dyno a stock GT500 @ 100k miles?

Ok, do you think it is wise to put a stock GT500 on the dyno, that has 100k miles? 1: Will it survive? 2: Is the data gathered thorough enough to help locate problems that an A.S.E. Mechanic could find anyway? 3: Do they help tweak or just point you in the right direction? Thanks.

07 GT500 coil packs with 105k miles: Test? Replace? Leave 'em?

The plugs have 105000 miles (20k were in Europe) But, always 92 or higher octane. Here in the Pacific Northwest, most gas has 10% ethanol. If I had the money, I would do 4 separate dyno tests, 1 with ethanol and platinum, 1 with ethanol and iridium, 1 with non-ethanol and platinum, and 1...

07 GT500 coil packs with 105k miles: Test? Replace? Leave 'em?

The stock plugs have blue painted rings on the ceramic ribs, the new plugs I got do not have the blue rings. Why is that?

07 GT500 coil packs with 105k miles: Test? Replace? Leave 'em?

So, I did install the stock Motorcraft .044" SP-405 Platinum plugs. Left the battery disconnected for 4 hours after that. I am not very happy with the performance now. I drove 150 miles today, hoping the computer and sensors would "adjust". I measured the plugs that I took out and they are all...

07 GT500 coil packs with 105k miles: Test? Replace? Leave 'em?

Ok, this has turned into some spectacle. I can't get a straight answer from 3 different Ford Dealerships here in Washington. The parts department says the gap is not listed in their computer system. The service advisors did not know either. One referred me to their technician. He says .033" ~...

2007 GT500 hood rust under the paint and stripes

Got a quote from the painter that Evergreen Ford uses. They say new hood, mount, prep, paint and stripes will be $4k to $5k. No, I'm not kidding. I got a quote from a Shelby place in Vegas to paint the entire car, pillars, under hood and trunk, for $10k

07 GT500 coil packs with 105k miles: Test? Replace? Leave 'em?

I took one out to look at it today. The electrode was rounded, and there was some sort of splatter on the curved metal piece that forms the gap. When I look at new ones, the electrodes are cylindrical and flat. I plan on keeping the car forever, so $40 for new ones is ok. Although Iridium is...

07 GT500 coil packs with 105k miles: Test? Replace? Leave 'em?

With 105k miles, can the coil packs be tested to see if they are still within spec? Should I just fork out $240 for the Ford Performance set? Change out plugs for a "colder" set, since there are 100k miles? Copper, Iridium, Platinum.? My guess is just replace the coil packs and use Ford...

2007 GT500 stock wheels have "worm-like" etching under the clearcoat

Yes, the car has 104000 miles, but I would like to know how this "worm-like" etching happens and is it time to get some new wheels? The manual says 18" x 9.5" and 5 hole @ 114.3mm with +45mm offset. What I don't know, is the stock backspacing and should I care? It is more difficult to find...

2007 GT500 hood rust under the paint and stripes

I had the car in a coastal environment for about 5 years, and this problem started. Rust? Bubbling under the vinyl stripe and some of the hood edge. The crazy thing is, I had the 3M rock shield installed on that front part of the hood - and it goes back almost to the hood vents. It does not...

2007 GT500 stock driveshaft boot dried and cracked

Here in Prague, the Ford service advisor says they could order the DS from the US, but would take too long to get here. We have to leave before it would arrive. I am awaiting word from Ford Extended Service Protection people to tell me if I have get a DS shipped over here, who actually has to...

2007 GT500 stock driveshaft boot dried and cracked

After taking off the bad boot. So, tomorrow, I am going to take to a local shop here in Prague. I will see if they can take off the boot so I can see any damage inside there. Should there be any slop in the driveshaft itself? back and forth, side to side, up and down, etc? I think I could even...

2007 GT500 stock driveshaft boot dried and cracked

We have 86000 miles on it. Had the car shipped to Europe. We are driving in Czech Republic and had it up on a lift for an oil change. The mechanic pointed out a completely dried out driveshaft boot, with a large crack in one section. Ford in the US, says that it is covered under our extended...
