02 sensor question

If my tuner diables the rear o2 sensors do I have to put them in? I am getting a custom h pipe and exhaust tomorrow and only have 1 o2 bung left so I wanted to use it for my wideband if I dont have to put the rear o2s back in.

Nope. I've had my rear ones out since I installed my Kooks LT's and catted H mid-pipe.

Just plug the bung holes...(pun intended)

O2 Sensor's Heater Question

Question:

If one disables the rear O2 sensors with a tuner, do the white or grey wires still stay hot with 12v for the heater circuit in the O2 sensor?

The reason I ask this is that I'm running AeroForce Interceptor gauges and changing to Kooks Long Tubes soon. The rear O2 sensors I want to turn off and install wideband sensors (one on each bank) to be used for running the 2 analog inputs on one gauge for Air/Fuel Ratio.

I'd like to know if the O2 sensor's heater continues to work even though the programmer turns off that sensor in the ECM.

Does anyone know?

The heater is part of the sensor itself so no, the heater won't work because it won't be there.

Will it be there power on the unplugged connector? yes, always, because the heater is ground activated.

Thanks... that's what I was looking for. The 12 volts is hot on the connector all the time. So if I install a wideband 4 or 5 wire O2 sensor, the heater in the sensor will work. That's what I wanted to know. I'll likely use the rear bungs for the wideband sensor on each side to get the Air/Fuel reading from both left and right banks. Good data to have available.

The wideband system you will be using will provide it's own heater system in the controller (the only dual system that comes to my mind right now is an LM-2, sure there has to be another but I think s going to be pricey, so two singles might be a better option). You just feed power to the controller and it feeds (and controls, I assume) heater power of the sensors.

I would not use that power connection for anything else.

My suggestion is to just unplug the sensor, save them and forget about the connectors and plug the WB as it has to be.

Also, why do you want dual?

I use dual sometimes to determine the leaner bank and then tune by it or if I suspect some bank to bank differences at WOT after I see somthing weird part throttle.

I would not do that to any car, don't see the need.

lito, by chance are the rear o2 sensors the same as the fronts? with just different color plugs? my rears are almost new, and it would be cool if i could swap my fronts out with the newer rears.....if they would work!

they are the same i beleive....a freind of mine had a shop plug his rear o2 into his front one by mistake ,he had long tubes with extensions and somehow they goofed. but it did plug in like normal.


now that you say that though,i do remember the rears being round connector and the fronts being more square, i think......but if that were the case im not sure how my friends would have been plugged in backwards
