Anyone know where I can get the cable that goes from the alternator to the positive terminal of the battery for an 05 GT?

I had to replace the alternator and it fried the original cable.

I had replaced the entire positive cable assembly about a year and a half ago but it didn't include the alternator cable. All my searches come up to this same cable.

Thanks for any direction.

I'd like a direct factory replacement, but at this point I'd settle for something that works. Right now I cut the wire and crimped it together with a connector just to get it running.

Looks like I'm going to go with this one:

Anyone use this before? 48" seems like a tight fit.

Stock alternator shouldn't have fried the cable. If you put in an up-rated alternator (making more than stock amps) the stock wire is NOT sufficient.

Not sure what alternator you put in but they should have recommendations or even sell cables (for example, PA Performance sells cable upgrades to go with their alternators).

Can also check the Mustang stores for cables, such as this one from CJP: https://www.cjponyparts.com/pa-perf...e-with-200-amp-fuse-v6-gt-2005-2010/p/WALT13/

It's a way overpriced alternator from O'Reilly, but nothing upgraded. I was 2 hours from home when it crapped out. Changed it in the parking lot in 90+ heat.

Was driving about 10 miles after the switch and the car shut off for like 3 seconds then came back on and there was an awful smell.
The original cable fried. I cut the ends fresh and crimped a new piece of cable just to get it home.

The new cable was delivered today, but they sent me the wrong one. It's the shorty version and only 30 inches long.
They are expediting me the correct one.

This cable is great quality though, very beefy and a huge upgrade.

I like PA Performance. I have one of their 200amp units in my car and it's great. I built my own cables as I don't have a stock configuration, but what they sell is good.

I finally got the wire replaced.
When I was searching for the original replacement, many sites showed they were no longer being made so I opted for the upgraded cable from PA Performance.
Then new one is much beefier and I'm very happy with it.
This photo is the old and new cables side by side.

Nice! While you’re in there maybe do a ground upgrade cable from one of the non used threaded alternator case holes on the back to the strut tower in front of the battery. I’d recommend a 4gauge cable only need like 2-3 feet of it

I’ve attached a photo so you can see where I snaked the ground cable that comes out the front left of the alternator to the strut tower. The goal is to have it as short as possible to the frame and close to the battery

Looks like general satisfaction with the PA Performance alternator replacement kit- which is reassuring.

I just joined the S197 forum- I have a 2008 California Special (112,000 miles), way over here on the other side of the planet- Sydney Australia.

Over the past 5 years, I have more proactively been completing preventative maintenance- such as replacing wheel hubs and bearings, just about to replace ignition coils. One of my challenges is to source the parts. Recently I have had some success with CJPony, RockAuto and Carkart- they have all shipped to Sydney, I cant find many other USA outfits that do.

Anyway, I have just started to think I should have a spare alternator in the garage. All of your comments have assisted me re this matter.

Hi Adrian

I have mad good experiences with TASCA Ford. They ship ww. another good source is. "Ford PartsGiant". they are located in California.. so the shipping may be less expensive -from CA to Down Under...

Hint, I you do your own wire connection, get an electrical fabric tape and wrap it. It looks OEM afterwards because it is.
I was able to get an alternator from the 2010, original Denso, which has a bit higher output, but can't remember the number.
