08 GT Engine Bay Squeak/Squeal

Hey everyone,

I've got an obnoxious squeak or squeal coming from the engine bay and I'm about at my wit's end. Every time I pop the hood with the stethoscope ready it tends to stop. Happens more after the car is warm after driving and tends to go away as it sits. Much easier to hear if you squat down next to the car and listen through the passenger side wheel well, it's not very prominent on the driver's side. Happens while the car is in the smoother section of the lope (it has hot rod cams).

That's about all I can think of for description, onto the videos:

So...what do you guys think I'm looking at here? Someone had suggested maybe the belt had glazed, but I've never dealt with that and the belt seems to be in good shape, however the car has 55k miles. With the belt off all pulleys are noise free and feel good.

With the car running squirt a little belt dressing or detail spray on the belt and see if it stops. Not a permanent fix but it will tell you if it's belt squeal. If it is belt squeal you need to find which pulley is causing the squeal. The bearings on the pulleys can go bad and throw the pulley out of line.

Thanks skwerl, I'll try that out tomorrow. My only concern is the overall intermittent nature of the issue. As I had said it seems to pretty much stop once I pop the hood, I'm not sure the dressing would make enough of a difference for the right length of time to be able to tell.

From your response you think a pulley out of alignment could be a cause? I'll try to pull the belt again tomorrow and recheck the pulleys. I'm unfamiliar with what noises could be caused by a bad belt itself, so I'm not sure if that sounds like a possibility from the video, either.

Pull the belt off the crank pulley and start the car without it. That will tell you if it's a belt/pulley problem immediately.

Long work day and bad weather kept me from taking a look today, hopefully tomorrow.

I just feel as though this won't tell me anything, as it only does it once the idle has settled down and the car is warm after being driven. It barely keeps doing it in time for me to pop the hood with a stethoscope, I have my doubts that it will do it after I shut it off and remove the belt.

I will be pulling the belt again anyway hopefully tomorrow and will give it a shot. Still hopeful it is belt related and not something more.

Friend came up to visit for the weekend so I was mostly occupied between that and football.

However after some more digging I think the noise is coming from the exhaust itself. I figured from the location of the noise it would be where the header joins to the mid pipe. I tightened up and it changed the frequency of the noise, so my next step is going through and loosening everything, then tightening front to back.
