I took my 100% stock (and I mean 100%!!!) 2005 5 speed to the drag strip Friday to make a few runs. Having only had about 3 weeks seat time I didn't expect a lot and I delivered in spades.

I can say the stock shifter is complete piece of shit. My fox-body with the Steeda Tri-Ax and my SN-95 with the UPR Blu-Thunder shifter both shift a billion times better. So it's tops on the list followed by gears of some ratio more than stock. I'm thinking 4.30's at least.

I expect I left a lot at the line but are these normal times "normal"? I made 4 runs. Here's the runs pecs in order...

60' = 2.331, 2.341, 2.219, 2.340
1/4 mile = 14.793, 14.406, 14.206, 14.287
1/4 mph = 98.37, 100.3, 100.11, 100.35

All runs ended in 3rd at about 6000rpm.

The mph is a bit on the low side, i'm sure it's the heat though, I ran a best of 13.585 stock @ 103 mph but it was in august and a rather cool day, with a 60ft of 2.083 I have 3.31's so I stay in third at the end as well.

I slipped the clutch from 4k rpm and speed shifted @ 6000-6200 rpm that time, how are you launching?

1st run I left at idle with an immense bog. 2nd and 3rd run I left at 2000 with a lot less bog. On my last run the light came down and I was not able to try my intended 2500 rpm launch. Had to go at idle and had a immense bog again.

I also believe this is the first time the car has ever been on a drag strip. It just turned over 25,000 miles right after I bought it.

Ahh I see that idle launch is killing you, you should try slipping the clutch out at around 3-4k quickly while feathering the throttle. it's a little hard to get used to doing that but pays off.

The higher launch rpm seemed to be working and I was planning to try higher. I also broke the tires loose on all up-shifts.

I think it has a little left in it once you learn the car.

for reference my 05 auto 100% stock ran a 13.8 on the brakes with S.D. driving.

It is definitely different from both my 90 GT and my 98 GT. I'm still learning how to make it run. Has more mid and top end power than both the other cars.

This is good advice. It's takes getting used to and some practice but will help out big time once you get the hang of it.

Did you go to NYI/Empire Raceway? I am planning on driving out from Buffalo for their wednesday night Test and Tune.

Yes. Leicester is my home town. I grew up about 3 miles from the track. I actually went to the MOM's race for June.

I need to take an evening or two and go to the track and try a bunch of different things to learn how to launch the car.

Once I sell my 90 GT I plan to add a full compliment of suspension along with gears and Race Lite wheels with drag radials. A minor engine tune is also in the wings as I hate the feel of the stock drive by wire.

My current goal is to see what I can do with the stock engine and real world street weight.

That's a good idea, I actually have some uninstalled stuff in the garage (x-pipe, 4.10 gears, lower control arms, ET street DR's) but I am trying to get the best technique before I do that to see where I am at, I didn't even install my CAI till I was sure I did pretty damn good running stock, that way I can keep track of my gains and aim higher at the track, telling my self why I would run 13.5 now that I have gears or something like that ya know?

Try to perfect your technique stock so when you decide to bolt some stuff on you know where you should be.
Some people bolt everything on and run 13.5 and celebrate because they didn't know what they could do before, oh and if you want to powershift without destroying your transmission to get rid of some time read up on the WOTBOX. I LOVE IT!

WOTBOX looks good. Definitely considering that item.

With a CAI, Brenspeed tune, LCA, Mickey Thompson Drag Radials, Stock 3.55 gears I ran a 12.79 at 106.45 last september

May I ask how you launched with the drag radials? I am going to strap them on sometime next month and see what I can do with them.
clutch slip? rpm? drop the clutch?

I get my best 60's slipping on street tires but I assume I can take advantage of much more grip from the DR's maybe a much faster slip?

Now I have a big decision to make, some people say dump it some say you can't dump on DR's you must slip. lol I only get 3 runs at e-town this sucks!

i cut a 1.81 60 ft this past weekend on street tires with an auto and stock converter, the track was prepped great and i just hold the brake and brought mine up to about 2400 and left, i know you have a stick car but i would try one run each way and see what it will do.
