When I got the code my car would hesitate off of idle, but drove find other than that. I also had the factory one replaced under warranty and that one failed also. I replaced it with the PA 130a unit.

I guess I'm gonna throw a quick question in here! Is the 200 amp alternator overkill?

~~ Searcher ~~

Sorry I know this is an old thread.

I just got these two codes last (P0340 & P0344) the car is running like shit even more so when it's warm and it's putting itself in safe engine mode. Do I start with the alternator or the switches? also i'm not running anything off the batt but my Zex kit. From what I read everyone says stay away from a Ford OME alternator any brands that anyone is happy with?

Best bet would be to pull the alternator and have it tested. But 99.9% of the time someone gets those codes, it is the alternator.

My car never drove bad due to the codes/alternator, but I knew it was going to go out. Ford replaced it once based on the TSB and the second time I got a PA Performance alternator. Have not had any issues since.

So i have the 2 p0340 and p0344 codes

I have a slight stumble or buck at light load, my volt gauge is still good, batt is good but i hear a whine coming from the front of the engine. I have a pa 130 amp alt in the mail. Do you guys think the alt will fix my stumbling issue?

Ok so I have been watching this thread because a few weeks ago I got the code. Well last night leaving a friends mine got it again. I came home erased the code and everything was fine. Tonight I went back over to his house, actually this afternoon and we went to leave. The car started surging and shaking almost like a misfire. I turned it off started it back up and there it was again. We got the car home, took the alternator off and had it tested. Tested out perfect. But I noticed my head lights surging under load. I am pretty confident my ALT is going out but why test good.
Code was p0340

The alternator should be oscillated tested. The majority of the quick test that are done can, but may not reveal a failing alternator.

Also check the cam position sensor.
