So I’m basically writing this because I am in the process of collecting parts to cam my 2010. I’m looking at either Detroit rockers, or ford hot rod cams. That being said, I am in a AUTO, so my first question is, is it even worth it? My next question is will I need a new stall converter?
Besides those questions I have a couple of the parts put together, but it’s not too late to back out. Sorry if the questions are stupid this will just be my first mod and I am new to the modding game. Thank you

First mod for you or first mod for the car?

Personally, I wouldn't start with cams if the car is stock, lots more bang for the buck before getting into the motor.

Post a couple photos and list of mods, if any, the car already has and people here with similar setups will get you all the info you need.

This.
On a 2010 GT I'd start with underdrive pulleys and headers before delving into a cam swap.
Keep in mind that a cam swap will move your torque curve higher up the rev range. Therefore to take full advantage, you'd need to swap in higher ratio axle gears and a higher stall rpm (3500rpm) torque converter.

So this will be my first time ever modding anything. I actually have headers and the gaskets/hardware for them in my basket because I was going to do both headers and cams at the same time so I can just do a single round of Lito tunes and be done with it.

I will not be doing these mods by myself and will be having a shop do everything because I do not have the experience to do all of these. I would not mind trying to do it myself but the problem is, I don’t have time or a garage due to me being a college student. So it is just easier to give it to a shop and call it a day.

Now I should have added a photo of my Mustang to this reply, this is my first day on the forum so I have 0 clue if I’m doing it correctly.

Nice car and welcome from FL.

What are you going to do with the car? Drag, road race, cruise etc. Also how many miles are on it?

There is a lot of knowledge on this forum and most are willing to help on any direction you plan to take.

Hi thank you.
Well I’m really only look for headers and cams for the sound. This is just going to be a cruising car, maybe a some spirited driving here and there, but by no means am I trying to put down some serious power. If I really was trying to push power I’d rather just slap a pro charger on and call it a day.

Another reason why I’m going head first into these 2 specific mods is because I had my car for about a year and half already I believe and ever since I got it I’ve just been researching and eye balling these mods. I mean it was all I talked about for like 6 months but reality hit when ever the price of everything was so much more than it seemed. Regardless now I am in a position where I can afford to do everything I want so why not go for it.

I picked it up with 67k miles(2 owners) and it is currently sitting at 88k

Ok good info and relatively low milage. I will default to others but if your set on cams get the ones that don’t require springs or phaser lock outs.

Cams will shift the power band up so you might want to consider some rear end gears (3:73 or 4:10). As with all automatics you will get the best launch with an aftermarket stall converter but since your not racing you might get by without one…

Nice car, nice to see another Texas member.

If you're just doing cams for sound I like the Hot Rods, I have them in my '08. I did intake, cams, headers, tune and a set of 3.73s all at the same time. I also did underdrive pulleys a little while after that. It's, for me anyway, just the right amount of power for cruising, occasional shenanigans and a good backroad pull every so often.

I don't race or anything or I would probably be wanting to fine tune and adjust more precisely a few things but for a beat-up weekend cruiser like mine it's perfect.

I have had two different S197s both with FRPP HRs, but with 5 speeds.

The lope is 100% worth it any negatives of the cams, but Lito will make it drive almost like stock….though as others have said…with yours being an auto, you will want a higher stall converter to avoid lugging/stalling. I get compliments daily on how they sound with the longtubes and Corsas.

The FRPPs are a tried and true option and sound the absolute best IMO. They don’t make a ton more power over stock, but you will feel it enough to make it worthwhile.

Brenspeed DRs are very similar in concept to the HRs and you will really be splitting hairs over those two. There is a good camshaft comparison doc Dino put together if you want to get technical, but for your purposes, you will be equally happy with either.

I ran the Detroit Rockers with Kooks long tubes in my 2010 GT, 5 speed stick and 3.73s. The DRs are very good cams. Plenty of power down low, operate with stock springs and keep the variable timing active. They have a little bit of “Bump-ity-Bump” at idle and are very snappy for drop in cams. They should be fine with an auto trans and a Lito tune.
Do you still have the factory cold air intake that came on the 2010?

Hello, yes I do have the stock cold air intake, I also have the shaker hood scoop don’t know if that changes anything considering it is real and routes air from outside into the box.
