I recently purchased a 2010 GT and it has transmission problems. Going into third is a grind. So question is, what are the pros and cons of rebuilding vs replacement? If we replace it, I'd like to put a six speed in, but is that worth it and will it even fit? A new clutch is going in no matter what the endgame is. Thanks.

I ran 800hp thru my stock trans. It started to whine at the end of the summer but never broke or grind. I swapped in a 6 speed and you had to be going 75mph to go into 6th gear with stock gears in the diffy or the rpms would be supper low at cruzing speed of 55

TR6060 is an easy swap, a 26 spline clutch disc, the cross member, the transmission, and shifter are the parts you really need. The driveshaft is a slight bit different but there are a few people who have just bolted up the stock shaft and had zero issues.

As durable as the 3650 is, the shifting sucks compared to a TR6060 or a T56 magnum.
I went from a barton shifter on the 3650 to an MGW Gen 2 and a shaftmasters aluminum driveshaft and the shifting went from very notchy (worse than my TKO600 in my fox) to the best manual transmission I'd ever shifted.

Thanks for everyone's replies. I've had issues finding the 3650 anywhere around me. I talked to a couple guys about rebuilding the one I had and they gave me astronomical prices. I finally found a used one that has been tested and ran through a dyno. I've got an MGW shifter on order and we'll install that after we get the car back.

Thanks again.

Just had this done to mine. $300 cheaper without input shaft upgrade. Had damaged reverse gears replaced & case coated…total cost $1750. Thought it was a good deal, reputable shop!

Does anyone know of a good transmission shop in the metro Atlanta area? I have my original 3650, I replaced it with one I got from a member here several years ago. I’d like to have my original rebuilt and put back in as the replacement has a little bit of a “nibble“ where the shifter shakes a little bit, particularly in third gear.
