Well it seems that my turn has come. I bought the 5.0 in Sept. of 2011 at which time it sat for the next month. I put about 300 miles on it in October. The first 4500 miles went good, absolutely no issues. I changed the oil around 3700 and used Amsoil. I check my oil weekly. At 4500 miles i noticed it was getting low and since i had full quarts it made it easier to monitor the amount of oil it was using. Over the next 1500 miles i added another 2 quarts of oil. About 2 weeks ago i started noticing oil smoke at startup. It went from just being at startup to being anytime the engine would rev. Accelerating onto the highway, you could look in the mirror and see the smoke. So i took it to the dealer and of course they ran their diagnostics. Fords procedure is to first do an oil consumption test. They change the oil and ask you to drive a preset amount of miles, in my case 500 miles. Currently im at 220 miles of the 500. I have not pulled plugs or checked anything, im not going to. This is all Fords baby. I will add that i had a JLT oil catch can on the passenger side for the past couple of weeks. I had to empty it twice as it was full and then the day before i dropped it off at the dealer i emptied it out, cleaned it and put it back on the car. My round trip mileage to work is 52 miles. The pic below is what i had when i got home. IMO thats too much oil for 52 miles. I do have a intermittent rough idle when the car is hot, it will jump from 500 to 750 and back down, feels like i have lopey cams. The last week ive noticed the car doesnt rev smoothly and has a noticeable stumble. Easiest way to explain it is it feels like fouled plugs. Well that my story for now.

Step 1, complain
Step 2, push for lemon after 30 days
Step 3, enjoy your new 5.0 replacement car.

Nothing will happen until the oil consumption test is done. If its indeed using up that much oil, and it falls in the parameters for Ford, they will address it Im sure. I wonder if they will just replace the whole motor or try tearing into it?

What is the cost of replacing an engine vs tearing one apart, getting parts and then putting it back together?

Gotta remove the engine, tear it down, diagnose what is wrong with it, order new parts, rebuild engine, put it back in.

I'd say between labor rates of a Ford dealer tech performing the manual work and possibly a Ford Engineer to diagnose the issue, you are probably very close to just removing and installing a new engine.

That is what I was thinking as well but wanted to hear it from someone in the business.

I'm not in that business per se, but I do a lot of process analysis and roi calcs for procedures like this when doing risk analysis and bpm design so I'm not an expert but I did stay at a holiday inn express.

Dammit man, I come here to get AWAY from work. :sigh1:

jewc75...It is impressive how calm and professional you have been through this. I have to admit, I would be stuggling to contain myself by now. Very classy on your part.

As close as I almost came to buying a 5.0 awhile back, threads like this is why I didn't. 5.0's are truly bad ass, they run good, but it's not worth the heartache to me.
I may be slower with my little 4.6, it may not rev to 7200, but it's got 70k on it and it still running strong and picking up time in the 1/4.

Sorry for your luck jewc, I know it sucks. I'd be mad.. I'm sure since it has not been modded Ford will cover it. I'm betting on a new motor over a teardown. Over all time and cost would be less.

Agree with the above poster, you are calm and cool. Props on that. I'd be seeing red.

Thanks but i am far from calm. I know my car will get fixed, no doubt in my mind. My nerves are on edge, work requires alot of awareness and concentration and its not there. This has started to consume my thoughts. In all fairness alot of the calmness is because dare i say it but my wife is very supportive. Shes by far the biggest Ford hater i know but allows me to have what i want/deserve. She doesnt like seeing me frustrated. Ultimately she wants me happy. Also i have some great friends on here that have been very supportive behind the scenes. To them thanks lol im gonna need it. They know who they are.

Let me add this to, i have nothing to lose, we all have everything to gain.
