Just got my '13 5.0. I ordered a jlt and tuner from bama, aside from that and catback its stock. I was considering putting a 100 shot on the car in the future. What kind of power can these cars stock clutch and trans hold launching on bias ply tires? Any input is welcome!

I'm over 600 with the stock clutch. It's lasted so far, but I'm on drag radials and don't hit it too hard off the line. (I can only leave around 2500 before I start spinning.) on slicks I'm sure it wouldnt last as long.

Getting a one-piece driveshaft should be high on the list. Also some have said it is wise to weld the axle tubes even without a ton of power, especially with a manual trans.

Trouble is, if you wanted to go nitrous and you just spent money on a tune and cai from Bama you kind of wasted your money because you're going to need a nitrous tune for even 100 shot on this car.

If you'd gone here, you'd get the SCT, a performance tune, a nitrous tune and the kit in one box:

That figures...I don't know if I would trust a dry shot to be reliable and safe.

I broke a stock diff and cooked up a clutch with around 60 runs on biasplies. Launching at around 6-6.5k rpms. I'd say around 20 of those runs was when I was on the 150 shot. I still have factory driveshaft and trans has a very very slight whine in gears 1-3 other than that, it's perfectly fine...I also just twisted out a axle tube. Make sure you get em welded up.

IF you have tunes for life through bama, they will write you a tune up to 100 shot.

I'm really considering the JMS kit once I get a few miles on my car.

Does anybody run it? How do their N/A tunes compare to the others? They show some impressive gains on a 100 shot and their nitrous controller gives a lot more control.

I like how the jms kit looks and works, I just don't know if I would ever trust a dry kit

Nothing wrong with a dry kit to 150, especially on a modern car. This isn't an E7TE '88 5.0 here, with a hobbs switch for "safety" and a wot switch bendy-strapped in front of the throttle arm. This is alot more sophisticated and the ECM is actually fundamentally retuned for the shot. It's as safe as any other power adder on a tune. Only way wet is "safer" under 150 is direct port.

SlvrS197,

Definitely put a drive-shaft on your list if you're looking at drag racing with slicks or drag radials. The factory drive-shaft will not last too long, even with a bone stock car on slicks! One piece drive-shafts are the way to go though, for any drag racer. Also, your clutch should last a little while, it really depends on how much you hit the track with slicks.

Nitrous- don't worry, you didn't waste your money buying Bama tunes! Bama can tune up to a 100shot of nitrous for any '88+ Mustang. If you're looking to put spray on your car, give Bama a call and they'll hook you up with a nitrous tune asap!

Our Bama Performance tuning specialists are here in the building Monday-Friday from 9AM-5:30PM EST and Saturday 10AM-3PM EST. You can hit them up directly at 888.226.9764 and they'll get you squared away!

If you have any questions, feel free to contact me too.

My stock shaft is still good after 70+ launches @6krpms on slicks and around 600lbs of torque lol
But she's done this season and she'll get a shaft this winter

Your "tunes for life" deal excludes power adders, IIRC. Tell me I'm wrong if I am.

100 shot? That's it? why the limit? This engine'll easily eat up to 150 on dry with proper tuning. How much nitrous tuning do you guys do? It sure ain't like tuning for FI. I'm sure consumers would like to feel confident your team has what it takes to tune for this PA.

I was told that for anything above a 100 shot a dyno tune was necessary by another tuner. He did up to 100 shot mail order also.

I'd say a tune is required for ANY shot on this engine. It is an 11:1 compression, high revving engine on pump fuel. plus n/a tunes tend to jack up the timing advance which may not be the way ya wanna go on a nitrous shot :)

5lho,

Our Free Tunes for Life program only excludes certain power adders. Here's a link to the exceptions, if you're interested.

Bama has sent out hundreds of nitrous tunes already. We're very experienced tuning for nitrous Mustangs of all models/years '88+. The reason we limit our custom mail order tunes to a 100 dry shot is because you should be monitoring any car on a dyno, plus checking the spark plugs when spaying over a 100 shot. Bama's safe tunes are our main concern for our customers, which gives us the reputation that we have.

Let me know if you have any more questions. I'd be happy to answer them!
