Well today is the day! The car is going to the dyno in a few hours! We HOPE and THINK all the problems are worked out on our end, and hope everything goes well on the dyno and for the tuner. We will only be doing N/A passes tonight. I still need a few more things to finish my nitrous kit the way I want it. Anyways, I will have the numbers posted later with more pictures and videos! Here is one pic of the car just before we loaded it! LOL

Well I'm gonna make this short right now, but the dyno didn't go as well as we wanted. Basically the car made no power. It put down 286 hp and 285 tq. From what the tuner said, he felt something could be wrong with the motor. So we are going to be doing a leak down and compression test on it Friday. We noticed the motor was smoking out the valve cover on the passenger side as we were pulling the car off the dyno as well as smoking on deceleration. We compared the power bands to identical setups on other s197's and the power bands didn't lie that something was off on my car. I'll keep you guys updated as the process goes on.

We knew what it would and should have put down. What it put down had nothing to do with the combo or tune. If the leakdown/compression test confirms what we're already pretty sure about, well... I'll be done with being civil.

Great project. I've thought about putting a 3V in my LX. Sorry about your issues and hope you get everything worked out!

Who did you buy the motor from?

Here on the forum, we made a 1200 mile trip for this motor. As for who, not gonna name names til we've confirmed the motor is shot. This motor is 25ft/lbs shy of what my car made factory, untuned stone stock, same hp. It's 50whp/40wtq shy of what my car made with this exact setup, minus long tubes. There's no excuse, it's in the motor. Just have to confirm it.

Well I finally have some great news! The car made more power with the stock cams back in it! Final numbers are 300hp/310tq. It is a huge step forward with where I want this car to be in the end. In the tech section, I mentioned I have an email to Nick at modular head shop (which he hasn't replied yet, he takes awhile to sometimes) for a set of custom cams. It has been driving me crazy not having cammed car anymore. LOL I'm going to drive the car around for a little while and work out all the little issues before I start the actual 'build.' We know the motor is tired, so instead of pushing it to its limits we are going to rebuild it soon.

The 'forged build' will be:

Stock crank
Sean Hyland H-beam rods (already have)
Forged pistons (probably manley)
Ported heads (picking up tomorrow)
Custom or bbr stage 2 cams

I want to thank everyone who has followed this thread and all the kind words! It has been a long road and glad its finally finished! I'll keep everyone updated on the next build when we get the ball rolling!

What headers did you use and are they LT?

Thanks.

I'm using 99-04 MAC longtubes. I do have some fitment issues with them right now. I am actually considering taking the car to my exhaust guy and seeing if he could make me a set of longtubes. I really don't like the MAC's on with this setup even though Keith Logan recommends them. I can not take them out or pull my trans without dropping the k-member. Plus they are resting against the frame on the passenger side which I need to fix. It is causing bad viberation throughout the car. LOL

Hate to revive this...but what's up with the car now?

Kind of weird seeing this thread pop back up. LOL The car is now a turbo'd 2v. Got a great deal from a forum member on a turbonetics, and Bobby at S&H performance helped me piece a kit together.

Unfortunately, the 3v motor didn't work out. There was just too many things wrong with it internally. I had a spare 2v sitting around so we just put it in the car.

If you start with a motor you are positive is good it's a worth while build. I liked doing a lot of the custom work that is involved with this swap, but there are snags to be had along the way. It really was a shame the motor had issues, I would have loved to see some time slips from it, and then see what a custom cam would do. I'd do it if my car ever got wrecked! (I'm lying, I'd follow the band wagon and get a coyote lol)
