Better area for this instead of pics and vids. Just 3 videos from last weekend's autocross event at our local track. Same track for all 3 vids, all sepparate runs, front, rear and cockpit, enjoy.

Nice runs and great videos, I like all the different angles... a big :thumb: lol

I am one forum member who doesn't bother checking the regular pics and vids section as it tends to get filled up with other stuff of no interest and so completely support posting track/auto x videos in this forum.

This is where the people who really appreciate these videos lurk. :)

I don't have time to check out your videos right now as I'm working but will do so later.

The second vid is a graphic illustration of just how much the body moves around over the axle with a PHB (any PHB). With a Watts link the body would be moving straight up adn down relative to axle.

If you don't mind a little unsolicited advice: Try 2nd gear and leaving it. :)

I didn't notice the downshifts at first. I sometimes down shift into 1st because unfortunately my local courses always feature two pivots (U-turn) which drops speed to about 20 mph. If I have a little straight coming out of the U-turn I'll take advantage of 1st gear to bring my speed up quicker.

awesome. Too bad us pacific northwesterners have to start getting our cars ready for winter, ie; put em in the garage.

I never downshift... sometimes get pin type turns. And if you have a lot of power (like say a car with a blower) I'd think there is *plenty* of available torque to accelerate from 20 mph in 2nd gear. Remember the down and upshifts take time. If it was an S2000 that might be different (though I think those guys often do too much gearbox rowing as well). But it's not, it's a Mustang.

The OP seems to be on street tires, which don't put power down as well to start with. And add a supercharger and mho is simply I would not downshift. Back to the OP... a car at the top of any gear is more twitchy than it would be in 2nd. Sometimes if the car is ill handling folks use that to help make it turn.

Tires are Nitto Invos, 260 treadwear. When hot, they are very good for a street tire, but this time of year it is cold and they do slide around. With a readline of 6800 I can get over 50mph in first gear. This particular track only had a couple of spots where 2nd gear was needed and of use. Agreed, sometimes it is better to stay in second, and on some layouts I do, but on this track layout 2nd gear would have had the engine at too low an RPM to have any real torque on a more or less stock motor with a CAI and tune.

Keep in mind, I didn't have time to run any autocross this year except for one in March, so I was really rusty!

Does that mean you have let other things get in the way of track time - I think it is time to review your priorities.

PS - I'm working today instead of going to a track day so I know the feeling. Unfortunately work is a necessary evil so that we can afford to feed our habit.:sigh1:

Um... respectfully:

Check this video out, particularly from :14-25 seconds. http://www.stranoparts.com/videos.php?VideoID=1 Those are two very tight 180's--taken in second gear in a Shelby GT with a stock tune, etc... I'm sure it's not making more power than your car is since the tune is a FRPP FR3 91 octane in that car. The car is on Hoosiers which have more grip than your Invo's and won't spin nearly as easily....

Sorry, in my opinion I think 1st is a waste of time and effort. I'd say the same thing if you were my student @ an Evolution school too. :)

is the whole rear end moving back and forth or is the tire deflecting off the rim ? Doesn't seem like the rear end could move that much without something being busted.

Man, those vids really make me want to think about doing it next year. Gingerman isn't too far away from me, but i'm usually just playing around straight line. Nice vids!

You know, I was also very surprised. I have a BMR adjustable panhard rod and I did have to realign the rear as I noticed the rear seemed a little shifted to one side. I pretty much have the car off the road now so I will get under it and have a good look one of these days.

I am quite confident in my ability as a driver on the track, but I always think about mechanical gremlins that could put all that ability out the window in a split second. Case and point, one of the guys from that weekend who is a very talented driver and usually #1 or #2 at the end of the day had his throttle stick wide open and despite hitting and locking up the brakes, he hit the wall.

So, I will be giving the car a real good going over soon!
