If you have a hole in a piston it's from detonation. That's it. It could be the tune, it could be an injector, or fuel system related... It certainly can't be JDM's fault, and it's likely not the "builders" fault. It's got to be in the tune or a failed fuel system part.

I recently put a hole in my piston on my 302 stroker (Saleen stroker, I built myself), but I made the mistake of loading the wrong tune at the track and leaned it out really bad.

Whether you knew it or not, your motor was detonating. That's the only cause of a piston to melt down. You've just got to figure out what caused the detonation. My guess would be tune.

Sorry to hear about your motor issue, but I have to agree with 19COBRA93 on this one...definitely not a shortblock build issue.

kurgans tune was fine. When he did my tune I didnt feel good about dealing with him. Just something in my gut. When I went to Brenspeed I had 60# inj. installed as well as a 2.75 pulley. Yes i was looking to make more power but was using more then the tune to do it. I am checking the inj this week but if one f'ed up would they have looked at that at first to see if it was a problem before telling me I must have a bad piston or the rings were bad. So they wanted $360 to pull the head off.

i want to STRESS that "the kurgan" is not ME!!

that being said, the reason the OP went to brenspeed after i tuned it is because he wanted more boost and bigger injectors... we tuned it with 39s and the stock balancer... since we were closing shop, i couldnt get him in and he decided he needed it done ASAP and brought it to brenspeed to retune it with an innovators west overdrive balancer and larger injectors..

As he stated, after I tuned it, he drove it to Cordova (110miles from my shop), ran 8 times, and drove home to peoria (probably 100-150miles) without any hiccups.. he just wanted more power.. I just wanted to clear the air

thanks bob kurgan

btw, IMO Brent at Brenspeed is a good tuner and good people.. i hope things get taken care of..

brenspeed will be the first person to point the finger the other way and blame somebody else. They will write the thing off as somebody elses fault before they even know whats wrong with it.

I don't think anyone here thought we were one in the same, but to HELP you clear things up, we are not the same. I've been using this username for about 15 years(actually carried over from IRC) on different forums. It's pure coincidence.

I am curious as to why you think Brenspeed is such good folks and good tuners when it's clear they screwed this up.

because he has helped me in the past (good people) and i have seen things he has tuned (good tuner)..

you ever think that MAYBE the fuel could have been faulty as well?? there are a lot of things that come into play when tuning... just an idea

I used the brenspeed tunes for 2 years and they worked great for me, no problems there! Not saying it can't be the tune though. The OP will probably never find out what went wrong.

I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree. I've read too many bogus statements from Brenspeed employees and also seen their crappy work online. Honestly I'd rather have MMR shit.

I had narrowed it down to 2 tuners to tune my car(you being one of them), but I think I'm going with Dynospeed Racing in Memphis. I don't know why I ever doubted them. I've been running Joe's nitrous tune and a 100/125 shot of nitrous on my full bolton with FRPP cammed car for 2 years with ZERO issues.

I called there before I went to Brenspeed and one of the guys said you wouldnt be able to take care of me the week I called but you would be able to take care of me before you "closed the doors". After I got off the phone I thought maybe after your trip to the hospital you were closing or moving and I wanted someone I could get to.
BOB KURGANS tune was fine and did work down the track

I added 60# inj and a 2.75 pulley and with the Brenspeed tune the car "went"
I am sending the new inj. out and get them flow tested.
The motor shop has my pistons out and one has a hole but he said there was a problem with more then that one. I will see them thursday or friday and will update here.

I used Brenspeed tune on my stock block for 2 years as well with the s/c on it

Im sorry about your motor issues. I will soon be embarking on a motor build myself and i cant imagine the stress i would have if this were to happen.

But anywho, considering the little knowledge i have compared to people here, i feel its the tune. Just because your car ran fine from brenspeed for 2 years on the stock block, doesnt mean it will after the new build. New injectors, whole new tune... whole new ball game.

ya, with our scheduled move, we were swamped with a few big jobs before we left.. we always stayed 2-3 weeks backlogged and there was NO WAY i could get you in within the 4 days you wanted... after we had a shop meeting, we figured we could get you in the following week and i called you. I left you a message, but i guess you were already at Brenspeed since i talked to Brent that day.. How did it run at the track after you left that night?
