Sounds like lifters to me,when you step on gas there is more oil pressure going to them so they stop with the noise, i would put my money on them.

You are making a good choice replacing lifters and lash adjusters.

I have changed mine with trickflow.

Hard to tell from video
Im sure you looked over all of the exhaust real good

But man that Tick almost sounds like an exhaust leak.

I'm gonna play the noob here but did you make sure your headers and all exhaust connections are tight??

And is the noise really going away or just being masked by higher rpms and increased engine noise??

If its not exhaust, I would say the top is a good place to start, like everyone else has said

So has the OP narrowed down if the sound is emanating from the valve train or deeper down? My old F-150 sounds like this on start ups but it is definitely more audible through the oil pan....damn piston slap!

OK sooo I am not calling it fixed so to say but just another piece of the puzzle...

I started it up tonight armed with my wooden spatula as I was bound determined to pinpoint the "knock" Ed told me the lifters were practically brand new so I was gonna try and locate the bad one with it running... so while it sat there running im poking and prodding my motor top and bottom and not really having any luck as far as a certain location... just as loud up top as it is underneath car...

I listened with my spatula all around the valve covers and nothing really stood out... Hell I could hear the timing chains running across the gears so I figured I would be able to pick up the "bad" lifter easily.... no luck...

As the car is warming up I noticed the Knock was getting quieter so I hopped up real quick and did a visual...

Got in the drivers seat to check temp and gave it a little gas... knock went away as normal but this time when it came back to idol the knock did not return...revved it up to 2500 a couple times and still no knock.. went to grab my gopro to take a video which is uploading now...

So im not calling it fixed but it is definitely a clue to my puzzle...

Could the "knock" be piston slap?
Something stuck that isn't anymore? ie lifter, chain tensioners, something else??

I guess I will have to let it cool down and restart to see if the knock is still there.

Stand by for the video...

So what are the odds that I just have a "semi" bad lifter that only works when the oil gets hot?

I'd pull the valve covers again, if it was a follower making the noise, and now it's gone, then it probably fell off.

A friends 06 3V did the same thing, noise was loud like yours, then it went quite.....then the follower that had fallen off ended up destroying his head.

A bad lifter will destroy a follower or let it pop out....better to be safe than sorry.

Let it cool down for 10 min.. started it up knock was there... let it get hot and it went away...

At this point would be safe to say its a bad follower/lifter?

Yep. Pull the valve covers again to have a looksee. Will only take a few minutes and you can eliminate one possibility.

I submerge them and pump them up while submerged. I keep upright and submerged till I am ready to put them in.

You may have had one that just did not pump up initially but as mentioned by others you need to make sure you did not lose a rocker (follower) in the process. That is a no joke deal there

I have a new set coming and will be priming them before install... showed the video to my engine builder and he replied welcome to 2618 piston problems... he said that piston slap was his guess without actually listening to it in person...he said the motor was set up on the looser side
