Just wondering how much I'm giving up with 3650. It has 180k and doesn't shift well, MGW short, clutch seems good but unsure of age or type, shifts seem very notchy or as others have used the term gates. I'm thinking I'm giving up half a second or more in gear changes alone. Any thoughts?

On my old 08 I had a few years ago changing the motor mounts helped with my shifting. Not sure how old yours are but if they are old (or not) the factory mounts let the engine twist under power & can cause tough shifting. I used poly mounts I believe & you get a little more NVH but it was mainly at startup & the benefit outweighs it in my opinion. Now a tuned 6r80 will shifts faster than you I imagine but I went with a slower 6sp manual when I recently got my 11 just because it’s so much more fun to drive.

The autos weren't universally quicker than the manuals in stock form until the 10-speeds came out in 2018. If your 3V is reasonably stock, a 6R80 swap isn't likely to make it any quicker.

I will look into the poly mounts. I'm putting headers on soon so it would be a good time to do it. I'm assuming everything is factory but engine has cams and other mods. I would probably have to run a quick 6 shifter. If it came down to a new trans I will probably get the 6r80 rather than drop all that on tko or similar and new clutch etc. Thanks

From what I see, the 6R80 is a very strong transmission that can handle the power.

I finally got headers on and did poly mounts to replace originals that were torn loose and was basically just engine weight holding it in place. Car shifts better but not sure how much because I need a tune bad and cannot get on it.
