first of all. i didn,t come on here to bash livernois and i won't. mike dropped the ball and that it. they did a great job on my first ones and now i am looking for new ones. i will decide today whos it will be.

as far as people being in business. this economy has effected everybody.
yes the best are allways busy but it still effects them to.

all customers are important no matter how small or large.
my family has been in the custom cabinet business since 1948.
a builder told me one time i want to get mad but i can't because you allways call me and tell me if you can,t do my kitchen in a certain time frame.

the point is if you keep in touch and let know whats going on they
will allways stay with you.

service is everything even if you have to tell someone what they don't want to here. but if you are good you will be surprised how many will wait for the best.

Has anybody used the ford CNC ported heads or Ford Hot Rod cams on a S/C engine?
Any input would be great.

I was thinking of these with the Aluminator short block, the new FR intake and TB.

I know Del Pino used the Ford CNC heads when he did the Aluminator shortblock back in March. He did replace the valves that come in the heads out of the box. The CNC work looks pretty much like everyone else's port job and can be run "out of the box" but I would hand finish them if they were going on my engine.

The Hot Rod cams will work on a S/C engine but you'll bleed off a bit of boost and cylinder pressure due to the overlap. For a street car they're ok.

Hot Rod cams are Okay?
Or good....?

Livernois, BBR and Comp Cams also make blower cams in several levels for the 3 valve.
I have a blown 302 @10PSI and stock automatic.
Looking for something tame enough to be driven daily but nasty enough to make it worth it.

Feel free to share your thoughts....

IMHO - the stock cams are more than adequate for your power level and set-up. I'm about to break 1000 rwhp with the stock cams and then I'm going to dyno with some custom cams after and find out for myself EXACTLY how much gains you get from cams with a big boost application. I don't think it's going to be as earth shattering as people think they are...lol

I rank cams on the 3V right up there with intake manifolds as far as the gains go. I'f I'm wrong, I'll humbly admit it but Wit the clearance issues, I just don't see any cams for our cars being all that magical over stock personally. I think a custom engine build could capitalize on some truly 'custom' grinds and get some big lift but not on any of the 'off-the-shelf' rebuild kits out there and certainly not on the stock motor.

Well, shoot.....that's no fun.
At what power level do you need better heads and cams....?
And how do you get there after blowing and stroking?

I don't think you 'need' cams or heads at any power level, if I'm honest. What you 'need' is a damn good valve train. I'd trade any stage 100 BS cam out there for a well built train. I was shocked when I had tests done and discovered the bind rate of the most popular spring choice out there on 90% of the guys with aftermarket heads. So much so I gave the data to Livernois and had them order me a custom set of springs to the specs I wanted.

It's just the nature of the 3V motor IMO that limits the possibility of doing the big lifts and durations that you see the big power gains on pushrods.

In my opinion, peak HP on the dyno isn't even something I would concern myself with regarding cams. I don't give 2 squats what they say it 'gained' on the dyno. All I would be interested in is what advantages in the rpm band I get. If the cams helped me spool my turbo quicker, or gave me more on the big end when my twin screw was flattening out, or allowed me to run the gear I wanted for my set-up... etc, etc. These are the only scenarios I would be looking at for a cam purchase IMO. All my opinion of course but I'm sticking to it...:beerchug2:

Coil bind = Bad
Something I understand from my push rod days....

Thats one reason I was looking at the ford stuff, it seemed mild enough to be sensible at 12mm (.470) Lift and had enough duration to aid in cylinder filling.....but the closing of the exhaust valve is a little late so bleed off is a concern as was previously stated. Just wondering what the consencus was....thank you for your input.

Actually....that is the nature of multi-valve engines. Look at the cams that seriously work for power adder four valve engines. All of them have less than .500" lift.

So you at least know the valve events of the Ford cams. That's a start. Check your pm's.
