How you drive is just as important. If you have an on/off throttle behavior or go "to the boards" from every stop or blip the throttle constantly or any of a number of small actions, your mpg will tank.

Coming down off the pass one day I gathered quite a bit of speed.

The first time I had 30mpg or better in a Mustang was an 86 GT with a five speed and the stock 2.78 rear end. When I drove from Denver to Waukeenee, Kansas I thought something was wrong with the fuel gauge. When I filled up I realized that I just had way better mileage than ever. Other times on long, long trips with the 86 GT and my 93 LX, I had some legs with >30mpg. The cars had a bigger MAF, 65mm TB, ported intake, GT40 heads, and headers. The 93 LX had the optional 3.08, and I really liked it.
I was shocked to see how much fuel my 08 burned. I was going through some old files and I saw a window sticker noting 27mpg, and I was about ready to sue Ford when I noticed that it was for one of the foxbodies. I get that the 08 is heavier, and the performance is much better. I just don't understand why a car with an iron block and a roller cam was so much more efficient.

With the 4.0, I got the best of 26 (mostly highway)
Mixed call it avg 23.
Coyote seems to return 20-21, regardless of how it is driven, but no hard acceleration/burnouts, etc. I have hit 23 a handful of times.
Fox was right on Ford's advertised numbers. After mods 16 city 18 highway.

With a Saleen VI blower, 39lb injectors, 5spd manual and 3:55 ratio. I average between 16-17Mpg city and 20-21Mpg highway.

I was seeing an average of 21 combined city/highway before any mods, but I can't keep my foot out of it long enough now to get any kind of meaningful measurement. About 17 avg. is what I'm seeing now but I'm sure that's from the way I drive it. Looking at a road trip next month of 250-300 miles so that should get me some good highway mileage data.

I basically extended the front undertray out to the sides to fill the pockets between the front bumper and wheel arches, and added a 2010 louvred bellypan to fill the gap between the radiator support and k-member.
Later on I plan to make a custom trapezoidal shaped undertray that extends further back under the oil pan to make the front underside as flat as possible and reduce drag.

I have an hour commute each way to work. I can get pretty good mileage just by using my cruise. If I'm being good I can get really good mileage. All depends on how I drive it.

The BULLITT averages about 20-21 city/hwy. I did get 27 mpg according to the computer when I drove to my parents on Father's Day, but that was all hwy with speeds between 60 and 78 for extended periods and being easy on the go pedal.

33 on the highway doing 65 MPH, city about 24. Granny driving. Cut those figures nearly in half when I'm doing "spirited" driving.

23-24 mpg ... city / Highway.. and country roads 30 /40 30 percent.
I think that a good milage for a car with 3,73 rear and 315 hp

Buying a mustang convertible thinking about gas mileage wasn't high on my list. But I was curious and pleasantly surprised when I went on a long open road drive and put it into cruse control. Like an earlier post I have to figure the mileage the old fashion way. So I did and I came up with 27MPG. I was sure I did something wrong in my calculations so took my numbers to a friend. Numbers were right. He was driving a 2018 Corvette and he told me he got even better mileage than that.

Locally, I don't go over speed limits often but don't hesitate to get on it from time to time. I have to get all of this out of my system as I'm nearly 81 and will soon have the car a year.

A few days ago I was in the parking lot of a local store and a lady pulled in next to me. She was driving a 2008 red convertible. She said she was 76 years old so I'm not the only old timer driving a mustang. Mine was in much better condition.
