I think the issue is the exact copy thing. Weld held a design patent on the Draglite for years. Nobody else made wheels like them. Greg Weld designed the Racestar wheel and they bought it after he died and tweeked it for the better. I've owned Draglites, Greg Weld Wheels and Racestars wheels and they were all nice wheels. I think the guys at Racestar have a legit complaint myself. If they are complaining. The lack of info tells me lawyers have said shut up while we deal with it.

I actually wondered if SVE/LRS was having Racestar make them when I saw them the first time. If it was only similar, that would be fine, but it looks EXACTLY like the Racestar right down to the center cap. If LRS changed the shape of the spoke (remove the stepped area and rounded the spoke) and changed the center cap (push through round), I think they'd be fine.

^^^^They really are not an exact copy. The LMR ones take a different lug nut.....

Not enough of a difference. Go look at post #76. They look the same. Mounting difference means nothing.

i don't know copyright, but i believe racestar bought the "rights" to that pattern from weld racing years ago.

as far as acorn, it def makes it easy for on off, just not nhra legal

Acorn lugs are NHRA legal, as long as the threaded part of the stud goes into the hex portion of the nut. In reality the shank style with stock studs is NOT NHRA legal since the stock stud doesnt make it into the hex on most wheels, Then the only thing you are relying on in the strength of the lug nut in the weakest spot. Thats why NHRA wants the threaded part of the stud at least the diameter of the stud in the hex portion.

The reason for shank lug nuts is the thickness of the hub, plus most most non unilug wheels are universal and 'lugcentric' as opposed to acorn wheels that are hubcentric and the lugs are just used what they were intended for - clamping. Anyone who is half serious should be using 5/8 drive studs anyhow..

I dont think they are copies of the race star, my guess is they come out of the same plant that race stars are made, just end up plated and final machined somewhere else. We'll see how it all ends up, was looking forward to seeing and trying them but I guess that isnt going to happen for now.

this is bullshit. fuck racestar and the unilug/direct drill crap. this is why I did not buy from racestar in the beginning.

im all for the LRS bolt on version, hope you guys win out on this one. either way, please find a way to bring another wheel to market that we can just bolt on. thank you.

unilugs have there place, you'd be surprised how many people own multiple cars, say an fbody, and a s197 and only want one set of wheels

the unilugs (on a mustang) were def more of a pain to put on, the chevy guys never cared because they had a centered washer anyway. the ford's sucked pretty bad though without real good lugs and washers

There is no reason to hate on Racestar, they brought some inexpensive drag wheels for larger brake late model cars. The unilug did kinda suck on Fords but they are usable if you are careful and not in a hurry. Like Beefcake said the GM guys didnt care because they use centered washers.

Unilug wheels means 1/2 the inventory,, so that cuts the cost down..

The direct drill wheels are no different than any other shank lug nut wheels so no reason not to like them. It would be nice to have a hubcentric wheel thats made for Mustangs with stock lugs, I hope the politics get straightened out, competition is good..

Dont mind my racestars with shanked lugs. Mcqard lugs and washers. Quick and easy swap. But about 50% percent of the customers cars at my job are german with studless wheels so I may use to the moving around to get a wheel on

Polished wheels can always be polished if they need it. Chrome gets crappy and it's too expensive to fix. I'll buy polished wheels over chrome every day of the week.

I called LMR today and ask a sales rep what happened to the wheels. He said after test fitting them that they were not happy with how they fit and were ordering another batch of them. I asked if it was due to RaceStar complaining about them looking just like their wheels and he said he had not heard that. He did say it would be a long while before they would be offered for sale again due to them having to be made and then shipped from China. I'd say that his response was what he was told to say to someone inquiring about them and them not being for sale any longer is due to RaceStar. This last statement is pure speculation on my part....

Definitely excited about these...

Had the unilug Racestars and while they weren't a huge pain, they were still a pain in the ass getting them centered properly.

Acorn lugs and hubcentric wheels would be amazing, especially at the price people are speculating.

Racestars had hub centric rings. Mine did anyway.

Just to clarify, I don't have any issue with LRS selling these wheels. Competition is good for all companies, unless their is a design patent.
