27000 hard driven miles on my factory MT-82 that has never seen the shop and it still performs just fine in normal driving and beating the shit out of it driving.

The only way to go with any kind of sports car is a manual. Don't be a Sally.

RE:

Thanks guys for your insight, I know that I would enjoy driving a new edge 4 valve but the refined ride of the +11 sounds more fitting for me and the wife. I would like to enjoy the freedom of a road trip with comfort and styling of the newer 5.0s My daily commute is only around 8 miles round trip so gas mileage is not a major concern. I know the 5.0 vs. the 4.6 is more power than I need. But I figure I cant take it with me and you might as well enjoy every day like it were your last. I even thought about the Shelby's but I don't want to own something that I'm afraid to drive and enjoy for fear of it's future value. When we had our last house built we took our time and the final product was perfect for my family's needs. My hope is when we purchase this Mustang, I will have no regrets. I will be back for more advice when the right car come along. Having the wife's blessing is a major start!!

I was going to say that the ride of the S197 and the build of them is so much better than the 20+ year old chassis design that the New Edges have. Sure, terminators look nice and are fast but overall as a sports car, the S197 is much better if you want all around performance.

Deals are out there to be had especially if you are willing to travel. I got my 11 gt vert for 26500 with 23k on it which is a great price for a vert. Only problem is i went 900 miles to TX to get it. That being said your budget of $25k'ish is reasonable, especially if you find a motivated seller. I'm gonna bullet a few points for you as its probably the easiest way to do it.

-You want an 11+ car as 10's still have the 4.6
-The performance option for these car's in 11 is the brembo option which includes brembos, wheels, and revised stability control. I think it includes 3.73's too but i may be wrong. I'm thinking a guy of your age you might not need or want the brembo option and will be happy with a premium car.
-Cloth sucks so opt for a 400A or 401A car. The stripe in the 401A car seats comes in different colors. http://forums.themustangsource.com/f726/400a-versus-401a-leather-485297/#post5909009
-I would opt for a 3.55 or a 3.73 car. It's not the end of the world if you get a 3.31 car as gears are a relatively cheap mod. http://www.latemodelrestoration.com/products/10-14-Mustang-Rear-End-Gears
-Manuals are nice unless you plan to mod heavily (which i don't think you will) then i would say opt for an auto.
-Get a premium package car. This will add bluethooth, XM, Sync, leather, power driver seat (optional passanger), 500 watt shacker radio, optional heated seats, beefier steering wheel, multi color ambient lighting, there is also a glass roof option, etc..

There's probably some stuff i forgot and some stuff i got wrong but i am sure others will chime in.

6speed 5.0 you won't be sorry and you'll never look back. I had a 2008 bullitt and yes it was nice but from my experience the 5.0 platform is just nicer all around.

Not sure why you say the cloth sucks, I have no issues with my cloth seats; no need for the prem package unless you have money to burn or you are someone who needs to have numerous whistles and bells that get set/used once and then forgotten about. I had the prem package on my 2010 and enjoyed it so much I did not get that package on the 2013.

You are wrong that you need the prem package to get SYNC/bluetooth, that package is an option by itself.

If the OP gets an automatic no reason in the world to swap out gears, with the way the 6R is setup the stock 315 gears work perfect.

IMO leather is awesome and is a must for me In my cars... Not knocking on cloth interior but let's face it if you plan on keeping the car for a while its probably a better idea to dish out a little more and get the leather. For one it makes the car worth a little more and 2 two it is easier to maintain and clean than cloths will ever be....

I won't argue that point but I had the leather on the 2010; it is hot in the summer and cold in the winter and weighs a lot more than the cloth seats if you are into racing.

Leather skins can be added after the fact cheaper......

I would wait. The 2015s will be out in less than a year.

This is something to think about OP. I was planning on keeping my 07 until the new 2015s came out. In case you didn't know, that will be an all-new platform for the Mustang, to be introduced in April 2014. The only reason I ended up getting my '13 is beacause the 07 needed some costly repairs, and the deals on the '13s were just to good to pass up. That being said, my 13 is light years ahead of my 07 in every aspect. And I LOVED my 07, so no hating on the 3V here.

However, if you are really into the "retro" styling that Ford has done with the mustang since 05, then I'd get a 2013-2014 GT. Yeah the 5.0 may have more power than you really need, but when you are not getting on it, it's as docile as a six cylinder. I baby mine about 80% of the time, but when I do decide to get a little spirited, the power is amazing.

As far as the 6M in the 5.0s goes, I have one and love it. No issues here.

I traded my 06 GT premium in for a 13 Gt premium. It has the track pack, brembos and the led cluster. I do not regret a single minute of trading the 06 for it! the 13 is comfortable, fast and has a lot of cool features like sync and the led cluster with the track apps. Either way you go, enjoy it and dont look back. Test drive anything you can and go from there. I would test drive the new 5.0 first tho, lol

Saying that cloth sucks is my personal opinion. I don't like it. You like cloth. Great. Just bear in mind that the majority of people out there prefer leather, so much so that most dealers don't even order large numbers of cars anymore with cloth unless they are lower end cars. Also with him buying used, your cost argument goes out the window. If he were buying new that would be a different story as we would have to jump from a base to premium and take on the cost associated with doing so at $2500 or whatever it is. By buying a used 11+ that option cost is a nonissue though as the used market has more leather optioned cars for sale than cloth. Also leather is easier to clean and will help him with resale down the line.

Thank you for correcting me.

Fair enough. I was speaking based upon my experience with the manual. I didn't even entertain an auto so i am not to well versed in them. I figured it was safe to assume he was looking at a manual as he mentioned he was considering 03-04 Cobras though.

OP I'm your age, and this is my 7th Stang. Deals are out there on 11+ GT's. You just have to find them. Picked up my 11 GT/CS auto for 25K out the door. Love my all black interior, sync, and the 400+HP!

I'm 38 years old, while not 50, I still am getting older and have much more respect for a comfortable ride as I get older. We own both a 2012 GT and a 03 Mach I. My 12 GT is WAY more comfortable and powerful than the Mach. Both cars are lowered on Sportline springs, but only the Mach feels like a rough riding Mustang. The GT still rides great.

Power - Unquestionably the GT is superior in every way. It responds to mods much better and drives much smoother.

Interior - Not only is the GT far more comfortable, but it also has options that obviously weren't available in 03 making the GT much more of a delight to drive. Also, sound deadening, it's much quieter inside the GT than the Mach. The Mach sounds AMAZING with the Xpipe and American Thunder exhaust. We get compliment on it all the time. The GT sounds good, but not like the Mach does. The difference is that you can really hear/feel the exhaust inside the Mach because it's not built as well. I like that the noise stays outside with the GT.

I love both of the cars. The Mach has been the best car we have ever owned. In the 10 years we have had it, it's never once given us a single problem but it has lived a very, very pampered life rarely ever being driven hard at all. Very well built car though.

That being said, the GT is still a far superior car in every way. You and your wife will enjoy owning a 2011+ GT very much. You can have all the pluses of having a modern hot rod without all the old Mustang hot rod problems.

Now that's a bunch of bullshit. I've got 40k miles on mine and that's driving it HARD. Maybe the common denominator in all your bad MT82 experiences is YOU.

I'm sure you'll find that a lot more than 1% of M6 owners are happy to have one.

OP, get whatever you like. I would definitely suggest a brand new 5.0 over any used and abused blown V8 car. Drive a bunch of cars before laying down your cash.

I agree. The 11+ cars are so much nicer than what people have come to expect from a Mustang in years past. It doesn't feel like an older Mustang at all and is light years more comfortable than our 03 Mach I. The MT82 isn't as bad as some internet warrior types make it out to be. If you overly abuse ANY transmission enough it will fail at some point. Just comes with the territory. If you want to play, you gotta pay.

Get what you want, have no remorse. Used GT500, 2013 5.0, or a 2013 Boss. Just get the Boss, don't modify it, tell your wife it's an investment you both can enjoy. Sell it in 20 years for alot more than you paid.

I agree with the first part. After raising your kids, you deserve any hot rod you want. My kids are 4 years old and 6 weeks old. When it's time for me to have an empty nest car, I'm going all out because being a parent is damn hard work and I deserve it! lol.

But the second part is complete nonsense. The Boss is not a solid investment, these late model cars will not hold value like the original steel cars from back in the 60's. That is just a pipe dream thinking you will make money on it, especially if the car is going to be driven at all.

Late model cars are depreciating assests and horrible investments. Drive them, enjoy them to your full ability because that is what they are for. Anyone who buys a Boss as an investment knows nothing about money management.

I was going to say that the ride of the S197 and the build of them is so much better than the 20+ year old chassis design that the New Edges have. Sure, terminators look nice and are fast but overall as a sports car, the S197 is much better if you want all around performance.

The chassis under the Machs/Terminators is from a 1973 design for the Fairmont/Futura platform that designed as a low power passenger car. That is the reason why the chassis's need so much tweaking under a Mustang. They are garbage. The chassis under the 2011+ cars far superior in comparison.

Are you always so serious? Lighten up Francis. I'm not suggesting sell the 401k and buy Mustangs to retire on. I told my wife that I was diversifying our investments when I bought the 2008 in 2008. It was mostly a joke (we lol'd) but I'll say that all investments are risky to some degree. You don't know what the future brings and I'd be willing to bet that a limited production kick ass car like the Boss will have more of a chance at increasing in value than most. For all we know our government bonds may be worthless in 20 years.

When it comes to money, I'm dead serious. Everything else, not so much.
