This would be a great thread for some of the dudes on some of the Mustang Facebook groups. The questions are ridiculous and the same things over and over. Then when you give an actual answer that isn’t something they want to hear, they get overly upset. To make matters worse, the idiots who don’t know what they are talking about will then back whatever the poster said or asked making them think they are correct. I know most of you don’t use Facebook, but if you do, check out some of the groups for all the wrongful information. It’s almost comical sometimes. For instance, hot rod cams are the best cams for a 3V.

I dunno, if I had just done hot rods and an intake and exhaust I'd probably have been happy enough with my car. Then later just upgraded to a s550 instead of being deep into a 3v, hedging my bets on the car buying junkyard truck 5.0's

If you want to go faster on a road course in these cars, focus way more on suspension, brakes, and tires, and way less on engine and exhaust.

I am on FB. I am in the 3v group and the s197 group. I really have to hold my tongue sometimes. Like when a guy who is going to do a clutch by himself needs help from facebook to remove the shifter, then I say if you can't remove the shifter on your own you probably should not be attempting a clutch job, then the next guy is like "don't listen to these people just youtube it".

For the short time I worked in a car parts store I would get cornered all the time by people asking me for advice, then argue with me until I told them what they already thought was true. If I told them what they already thought was true, even if it had already been proven wrong in their own application, I was "right on the money" and people would say "thank you". If I told them the issue was something other than what they already thought it was I was "just the guy at the parts store, they don't know anything" and more than once I had a customer try to convince me that they were right. Like it fucking matters to me if their car does not run.

I knew what conformational bias was before I went in there, but I had no idea how strong it was in people.

@NUTCASE, what do you do for work now?

I know a fellow in california that grows medical pot.... and it all sells to just one medical distributor. He tells me he grossed just under $400K last 2 years in a row. Greenhouses etc, have to be sterilized every 6 months. Hires cheap mexican labour. Its a license to print $$$. You should get in on the projected 6 billion dollar marihuana industry when it becomes legalized up here across the country next July 1. You would get at least one good crop per year, between spring + sept /oct..on ur farm. You will also be allowed to sell it on line...all for legal recreational use of course.

6 billion!!

I want people to smoke less pot. I'm not sure we're on a good path here. I guess it's pretty good medicine, but I don't need it yet.

Why? Just out of curiosity. Aside from smoking and driving obviously, but what do you see as the negatives to smoking? Going way off topic here lol. And I don’t mean this in an argumentative way. Hard to convey tone so I don’t want this to be misconstrued.

As far as my 'crudentials' I have been working on cars for over 20 years and was a mechanic for the first 3 of those years.

Currently I'm 10 classes out from my BS compsci and working as a security guard. I just fell into trouble last year and needed a job with a flexible schedule that I could get hired on the spot for.

My boss would rehire me in a second, I just hope to god I never have to go back.

I've been on facebook just a little over a year. My main reason for joining is the members of my local car club are all on there, otherwise, I wouldn't even bother being on Facebook, to begin with. Anyhow just out of curiosity, I decided to join the s197 group to find out if there's more activity going on, as it seems there's less and less activity on Mustang site forums anymore. However, when it comes to getting straightforward answers, it's just as you said, if you don't provide the answers to those certain people in which they only want to hear, they get all fucking pissy and tell the next person not to listen to you. IMHO if those idiots in question can't appreciate the fact that you're doing everything you possibly can to be supportive towards them providing them with valuable info, then don't bother asking for feedback/advice in the first place. Needless to say, I spend very little of my time on the s197 group as a direct result lol. As for the 3v group? I wasn't aware of their existence until after reading your post just now

The 3V group isn’t terrible. Not as bad as the others anyways. And there are some dudes with some big numbers as far as 3Vs go as well.

Add this to the list. Don't do something stupid.... like using 5W-40, 10W-40, 15W-40, 5W-50, 10W-50, 15W-50 in a 3V engine. You are not doing yourself any favors. It's WAY too thick for a 3V.
Didn't see this post before I made mine but this can't be said enough.

Would you happen to know by what name the 3V group is under? If they're not as bad as the other groups, I'd be interested in possibly signing up

Doesn't really matter what you do to a 3v to try to nurture it - will blow up due to a rocker arm jumping off or the bearing seizing up - new/used/motorsport parts all the same.

I.

I would like to hear more about this. What do you mean " new used, motorsports"?? The 3v is one hell of a strong block compared to the all mighty Coyote as far as having to sleeve the cylinders. Weak points of course are the rods and pistons......much cheaper than sleeving all 8 cylinders on a modern block. I think dollar for dollar the the 3v has the Coyote beat. I think it's super cool to swap to Coyotes but a 3v with rods and pistons is one hell of an engine and if you have an 05 to 10.....much cheaper and sooooo much easier to just beef the 3v.

Up here they just think it will be the be all and end all, with all of these benefits for the economy, etc.. whereas little will change. I have smoked/eaten marijuana... I just hope that people don't think they can drive or function while high. I can't! Humans aren't reasonable and they might end up taking more chances once the stuff is legalized. We already have a huge drinking problem here.

Beyond that it just seems like low hanging fruit. We're on the skids when it comes to research and development in this country. Productivity is stagnant. I'm not sure more weed will help.

Block is ok, heads and cam drive are junk and drive me nuts, so many bizarre failures on this forum alone. I built up my 3v as cheaply as humanly possible and I feel like I could have done a jy coyote for about the same, based on simple calcs. It's because I'm including the cost of all of the blower stuff that it takes to get the 4.6 to punch as hard as a 5.0!!

Lately I've been dreaming of a 2015-2017 mustang longblock, the newer comp CR cams, a cobra jet intake, and my twin 67mm throttle body. I don't even know if the 15-17 ecu would work in my car. Get a twin disc clutch and a T56 magnum xl. Turn near 8000 and make 550 wheel. $$$$$$$$$ That's why it's just a dream.

I worked with a guy who smoked pot on a regular basis for years. ( 10+ min) Also know of a few more long term pot smokers. All of em have this built in 2-4 second delay..when you ask them anything. Their brains are fried, it's that simple.

Texting while driving is now worse that drinking driving. Toss in some marhiuana to the mix, and the cops will be kept real busy. I ran into a ambulance fellow at the local coffee shop, asked how his night was going so far. He tells me he made 22 trips to the local university..in just one shift alone. Alcohol poisioning, drug od, u name it.

I predict it will be a failed experiment.

Alcohol is far worse and that should be made illegal in my opinion. I have seen weed help a lot of people, but it’s like anything else. Moderation is key. As far as the killing brain cells thing, that’s been disproven. There is an old bias against it, and I can understand that, but if weed had never been made illegal by the tobacco companies who gave money to politicians, it wouldn’t be viewed as anything different than alcohol. Which has no medical value by the way.

3V Mustang Nation is the one that is tolerable. Stupid name, but some good info. One guy running low 11s N/A. Several with 800+ hp builds. Pretty impressive.
