We have all kinds of handguns, 9mm auto, .44 magnum, .357 mag, ...

Kind of either boring or deafening to shoot. I thought, let's try the .44 without hearing protection just to see how loud it is. That's not a smart thing to do. Dirty harry would be completely deaf.

All kinds of ding dongs have "tactical" looking rifles, stumbling around the bush taking pot shots at wild animals. No full auto. I didn't know that you could have big drum mags in case the apocalypse comes or some guy tries to stab you to death with a fingernail file.

Should be this way in every State.
GA has the “castle law” which also includes your vehicle. Basically, your car is an extension of your home, and thus you can carry a firearm with minor restrictions on where, ie: not in the drivers side door panel.
This protects LEO from getting a “surprise” from a leftie when they approach the car.

Back on original topic:

1). Get the car/transmission you really want. Don't settle for an automatic car if you really want a stick shift. Don't buy a manual car if you want an automatic. I was bit hard by this one back in the day.

2). Do your research and make an end game plan right out of the gate. Staying NA? Supercharger?. Turbo? Nitrous? Nothing worse than to buy a 3500 stall converter only to swap it out a year later for a 4400 stall. Nothing worse than to put NA cams in your car just to swap them out for supercharger cams six months later. Buy your mods once and once only.

3). Once you have a game plan then shop the mods one at a time and always look for good deals. I bought most of my mods either used or when they were on sale.

4). Don't just add big power without understanding what the rest of the cars limits are. I have seen people blow up motors because the stock internals couldn't handle the power increases. I've personally blown up transmissions because I was putting more HP and or TQ then it could handle. Build the car to handle the power before you add the power and your wallet will thank you.

5). All the power in the world is worthless if you can't put it to the ground. What's the point of a 700 rwhp car that does nothing but spin tires on the street and run 12's at the track? Upgrading suspension and tires may not show up on a dyno but will show up in spades at the track and on the street.

Unless I misinterpreted your post, it's my understanding that all assault weapons and handguns are prohibited in Canada
Assault weapons. By definition that means a firearm has select fire capability that allows you to switch from semi-auto to full, or burst fire. Semi-autos are set up to only fire one bullet per trigger pull and that is how guns based off of military grade platforms come into the layman's market.

Not many people go after mini-14s but politicians and soccer moms flinch at the AR even though they are both semi autos that fire .223. The black and scary gun is the one that gets blamed first.

But to answer your question, I was under the impression that gun ownership is allowed in Canada. However there's no such thing as a castle doctrine and concealed carry is not as common.

In case you didn't know, AR-15's are legal in Canada, as are 34 round mags for em, and also bump fire stocks. There is a loop hole for the 34 rd mags. Hollow pointers for handguns are also legal.
Drum mags like the 100-120 rd variety are legal for any semi auto rim fire rd. A few things are banned, like tungsten rds, double bladed knives, and any version of an AK-47. Max of 10 rds for semi auto center fire hand guns (+1 in the chamber = 11). No limit for any rim fire semi auto hand gun.
.25 + .32 acp handguns are on the prohibited list (but there are thousands of em here in bc, they are all grandfathered... and u can still buy ammo for em. ). Min barrel length for any handgun is 4". Forget what the min overall length is for rifles. Folding stocks are legal.

Are $300 SVT-40s and $200 SKSs still a thing there?

my brother has one of the latter. Shoots like it's made out of old tin cans.

I've bought several standard trans foxes and selling them later because I really wanted an auto, hahaha. Waste of time /money for sure.

I was in a hurry to go at least somewhat quick in a hurry so I got a 5C, that forced me to buy a centrifugal kit over a pd, I'm happy now, but it narrowed my options as I didn't want to spend another grand on another new tq converter hahahaha.

3). Once you have a game plan then shop the mods one at a time and always look for good deals. I bought most of my mods either used or when they were on sale.

Black friday for me every year after knowing exactly what I want on larger purchases.

I have seen 1200+hp supras get molly wopped by sub 600hp cars. If you live at the salt flats, or every race you get starts with a 70 roll then pay more attention to competing with the 1800hp twin turbo gillardo. Otherwise, make sure you clearly define whether you want to be the dyno king or the racetrack king.

Nope. BUT AR 15 /10 platforms with the upper / lower can only be used at a shooting range, can't take em out into the bush. Ditto with handguns, shooting range only. Ruger mini 14, ruger mini 30, can be taken out into the bush.. ( + a ton of other semi auto rifles, like sig etc). Stupid really, since both are semi auto, and both use the same .223 round. The AR-15 is black, evil looking, has a bayonet lug, etc, etc. 3 yrs ago, ruger made an all black, tactical version of their Mini-14, it was legal in the bush, Cabellas up here sold loads of em.

Any AR platform, or any AR derivative requires a RPAL ( Restricted Possession and Acquisition License.) Handguns also require a RPAL. Everything else requires just the normal PAL.

I don't hunt, but find paper punching to be a challenge. Even then, I find handguns to be a bit boring at the local ranges. Novelty wears off very quickly. Rifles, out to 500 - 700 meters, is a lot more challenging. For that game, a bolt action, tweaked up platform is typ used. Sri for the ot.

If you find pistol shooting boring, just move further away from the target! I usually practice w/pistol at 25 yards, sometimes 50 yards. Most others shoot pistol @~10 yards. << That is too easy!

I do like long range shooting, but the most my club has is 300 yards.

Block is ok, heads and cam drive are junk and drive me nuts, so many bizarre failures on this forum alone..

"Cam drive junk" as in the tensioners and VCT stystem?

Thanks for the informative post, interesting take on the 3v.

Something or other fails, takes out oiling, cams eat the bearings, that eats the mains. There's another new post in the tech forum eight now with 2x people with oil filters full of shrapnel. Near stock engines.

Your new engine will be great. Just throw some hot rod cams in it on the way by. Add a mds (lito) tune.

Thanks for the positive vibes my friend. Shipping delayed but no big deal since I will be at least be going over the engine and possibly installing valve springs and cams. Should be here Friday...the 12th.

Thinking of comp VSR 127300 cams. I have mentioned before that I had planned on a DOB supercharger kit, and I have collected lots of parts that can be sold. Mint M122-Black with elbow and GT500 TB. Gt500 heat exchanger. I have been doing some thinking and the I just really like an awesome driving experience. I beat on my mustang, hit the limiter, find an curvy backroad. I suspect with my uninstalled longtubes, the VSR 127300 cams and possibly the FRPP intake I would be very happy with the car. I want it pull hard up top and to shift at 7k or higher if safe, I love revving out a great sounding v8 like the 3v. ( I have mid mount flow throughs and I LOVEd the way the car sounded with Pype bombs and catless xpipe.

Thanks again for your insights! valuable info for me.
