Anybody actually run 4.10 with mt82?

One of the guys on the Roush forum had 3.73 gears ( MT-82) and was real pissed with it.....constantly shifting. Toss in the TVS-2300 blower and it's a handful. The 13/14 GT-500's came with a 3.31 gear.

The 3.31 would be ample with the MT-82. The 6R80 comes with a 3.15 which is optimum. The 6R80 has an extremely low 1st gear... like 4.XX, lower than 1st gear on the MT-82.
Justin @ VMP uses a 3.55 on his 2011 6R80.... but he traps at 150 mph.
I can see maybe using a 3.55 rear gear on a MT-82 or a 6R80 if you were using taller tires, like 28.8" from something like a 305-45-18. Even a 305-40-18 is only 27.6" tall.

If you are a hardcore drag racer..and use 28.8" tall tires..and are NA, a 3.73 might be just the ticket.

For street use / DD/ hwy use, and with 27" tall tires, I'd want the potential for better fuel economy on the hwy.

They actually use 2.73 gears on Rebecca's car. They started with 3.55's with the aluminator then made the switch to 2.73's to help with shifting the car and keeping it in power.

My car is na and I really think 3.73 are too short. I'm in 5th at 25 mph and constantly shifting if I'm not on the highway.

As far as highway driving there is little difference. The mt82 is, 4th gear 1.32. and 5th gear is 1.00. The tr3650 is 3d= 1.32 and 4th = 1.00. Even the OD is almost the same. So if the tires are the same size there is no difference. You just get an extra gear with the MT82. You can start off in 2d gear on the street and save 1st for racing.

I do this almost exclusively with my MT82 + 3.73s. Bonus, I never have to deal with that stupid skipshift nonsense.

The 3.73s are a great choice for a stock or mildly modified MT-82 car with a tall tire. The 3.55s are better if you keep a stock height tire.

Blower and turbo cars don't like a lot of gear; for that matter, they don't like manual transmissions either.

The coyote makes a nice torque curve, so you don't need a lot of gear to keep it in a narrow RPM band. That's why a lot of gear doesn't make these cars measurably (or any) quicker.

No they don't. Steve at Tasca couldn't locate any and I know I searched for a couple weeks trying to help Justin find a set for Rebecca's car. My only result was a set on eBay which the seller said were pitted.

I guess they stopped offering about 8months ago. Unless they broke the set in the car, they shouldn't need 2.73's since the car already had a set in it. Anyways, used 2.73's are plentiful in junk yards and ebay. I know Justin was looking for a set of 2.47's, which I currently have. I looked FOREVER to find a set that wasn't messed up.

I wouldn't be caught dead in one even at the grocery store. That's like the old SRT-4 guys thinking they were cool because they had a neon with a turbo. It may have been somewhat quick but it still looked like an ugly ass Neon.

Lemme get this straight, Five oh Brian uses 4:10 gears on his NA coyote....yet VMP uses 2.73 gears on it's blown coyote.

I forgot the V6 cars used the 2.73 gears. Folks with V6's + oem 2.73's say they are slugs, it's the 1st thing they swap out. However, the 2.73 might be the ideal ticket for stuff like..the texas mile.

3.73s here. After a tune I was finding some dragstrip runs necessitated a 5th gear shift. That was on the factory 27.25" tires. I'm now on 27.75" and can stay in 4th. For the track, I think the 3.31 would be better. But for fun just driving around, 3.73 is way better.
