Hey Guys. I just picked up a set of Steeda Ultra Lights in Black that were once chrome. I got them for a steel. 150.00 for the set. The problem is that the guy before me tried to take the black paint off of them from the guy before him. All of the wheels are true and no cracks. Even got the steeda center caps with them. For 150.00 I figured I could take a chance since 150.00 is less than 1 wheel from AM.

Has anyone ever taken paint off. The guy was going the right direction but using the wrong things i believe because some of the areas that he sanded down he scratched and what not. I am not concerned with keeping the chrome look . I am thinking more of the indentions on the spokes being black and the rest like a machined finished. And the centers being black around the spokes. A friend is attempting to photoshop what I am going for. But I want to go ahead and start getting the wheels taken back down tomorrow. ( I refuse to go out into town tomorrow ) Thanks for all the advice so far.

For that black to have stuck, they had to be blasted or sanded down realllllly good I would imagine. If u get the black off they may not look good under there dude. Just sell them to me and make a little change lol

Ok I used the aircraft paint remover and man that stuff works fast. Buy here is the other problem. Who ever painted these wheels scuffed them
Up pretty bad before painting them. So the chrome is scratched up. Not too deep. But let's say I wanted to keep them chrome. Anything I can do to repair the scratches. Oh and FYI. WEAR GLOVES WHEN PUTTING THIS CRAP ON. I teared up like a little girl cause some splattered on my wrist

Negative, Ghost Rider. Scratches in chrome are hard, if not impossible, to fix. As previous poster said, you will more than like have to have them re-chromed.

And yes, paint stripper can be a b#tch. I've stripped a few bike frames in the past, and you only do it once without gloves.

Well I've got three done and I found my first bad rim. It has a spot of chrome peeling away. So I guess I am going to blast them and either powder coat them or go another route. The area where the chrome is peeling is right past the lip and smaller than a regular spray nozzle on a rattle can

I'm really trying to stay away from black right now. I was thinking maybe a machined with black though would look killer. I just wish I knew how to use Photoshop better

I will try and get some better pics tomorrow when I box them up for transport to whichever shop is getting them.

Even with a ton of work/$ will you never get those things looking chrome again at least not good anyway. Save yourself the trouble and take them to a shop to have them cleaned up and powder coated (semi-gloss or satin black ;) ) usuasly runs 50-75$ a wheel. And if you dont end up liking the way they look on the car sell them and get some money back out of them.

Man you are like the 5th person to say that.

But I was thinking on each spoke a machined type finish like a grey or something and in between each spoke down to the lug area black.

Well a local guy came out today and looked at them. He said is gonna have to blast them. But he will blast and powder coat any color of my choice for 200.00 for all the wheels and it would take about a week if I got it done now or a few days if I waited till after the first. He said he would do 2 coats of color and 1 coat of clear. For that price. He gave me some color samples and I am really really like this black chrome look. But he calls it black mirror. And he said against the green on my car he thinks it would look really good.

200 for a set of 4 including media blasting is a bloody steal.

I've seen a legend lime with dark chrome wheels, and it looks very nice indeed.
