Anyone have a Quaife diff?

Does anyone here have a Quaife diff? How do you like it? When my stock LSD wears out, I'm considering replacing it with a Quaife. I do mainly track days with the occasional autoX and occasional 1/4 mile drag strip runs. I figure that even though it costs a little more up front, in the long run its cheaper than buying a less expensive diff and then replacing it again a few years later.

In the past I was really happy with how they stood behind their product and they will repair the diff even if its broken while racing, which rarely happens. The only times I've seen one fail were when someone forgot to put gear oil back in the diff after draining it to change the fluid and when a transmission on a FWD car with a Quaife diff leaked out all its transmission fluid and the diff seized.

Don't have one yet but that's what I think I'm going to go with. I've seen/heard nothing but good things from my research. Was originally set on a T2R but with no warranty, there's enough horror stories of them self-destructing and just wearing out to steer me away. Figure I may or may not have issues with the Torsen, but only takes 1 failure/replacement and it would have been cheaper to go with the Quaife in the first place.

you going to 28 spline ? I'm pretty sure they don't offer a 31 spline application. if they do let me know the part number as I was going to go quaife but can 't find a 31 spline version.

they are blowing out 28 spline if you want to change axles

Woah..nice catch. What'd it take to go with 28 spine axles? Have to go custom?

a $300 set of custom axles. And if you brake one at the track your done. I carry extra 31 spline stock axles with me on the trailer.

When I contacted them in the U.K. they said they make one for the 2005-2009 Mustang GT, but its a custom order item. I'll have to check with them to see if they know the correct spline count and if they make a 31 spline model.

Looking through the catalog, they say that part number QDF29Z fits the 2005-2008 Mustang GT. The 28 spline model is part number QDF35Z. I just emailed them to confirm the spline count and cost.

Been looking in to this more.

I don't think axles are going to be the stumbling block; it's going to be the axle retainers. IRS half-shafts use a spring clip that fit in grooves, stick axles have C-clips. You could use a C-clip eliminator, but those don't seem to be appropriate for road race applications (insufficient side loading capacity).

Any other ideas?

I heard back from Quaife this morning. They make a 31 spline LSD for the 2005-2010 Mustang GT's. However its not a regular production item and they need 10 or more orders to do a production run.

So basically we need to do a group buy if we want a quaife LSD.

Did you get any more details like price (I'd like to assume $1300ish like the normally priced IRS version, but..), how long they would take to manufacture, deposit or fully paid up front, etc?

I'm still waiting for their reply about that. They seem to take two to three business days to reply to emails.

OK, thanks for the info. I'm definitely interested (pending details), but admit I'm not sure how easy it'll be to come up with 10 people wanting to shell out $1300+ for a differential. We'll see!

Im running the Eaton True Trac in mine and absolutely love it. Obviously Quaife is a superior unit, but for the price of the Eaton and how amazing it performs, Im not disappointed one bit. Theyve got it in a 31 spline setup for an 8.8 and isnt near the price of the Quaife.

I'm waiting to hear back from Quaife again. The people that could give me pricing info were at PRI last weekend.

Quaife put me in contact with their U.S. distribuitor. Now I'm waiting to hear back form them to see if they are in stock or have to be produced and what the cost is.

The US distribuitor and Quaife apparently don't talk to each other or someone is giving me wrong information.

Dave Weller from Quaife in the U.K. said they have made the ATB Diff for the 2005-2009 Mustang GT, but don't have any in stock and would need to produce 10 of them to do a production run.

The U.S. Distribuitor said that they need one of the stock diffs to send to Quaife use as a model to get the diff produced and they would like to place an order of 30 diffs with having 15 of them pre sold because they have had many people asking about the availability of the Quaife LSD for the 2005+ Mustangs.

Also, Quaife lists the GT500 and GT as using the same diff. If this is true, then maybe it would be easier to sell 15 units if they do require that many.

After talkign with Quaife and their U.S. distribuitor, it looks like we will need 15 orders for this to go into production and the price will probably be $1395.

I wonder if we will get 15 people willing to spend that much?

I was just wondering about this..not sure I can 100% commit now, but I'm definitely interested. 15 pre-paid orders I assume? Might be time to start kicking this idea around on other forums..
