Did you notice more heat in the car after installing the LT's?

I'm probably purchasing a JBA setup, would like to know if the $200+ is worth its salt when it comes to coating. All of the high dollar stainless headers are uncoated, and the JBA bare headers are 500 and change.

I have Pacesetter long tubes with no coating and i didnt feel any different than when I had the stock manifolds. If any, probably slight, but not much. I also have a 06 GT convertible with stock manifolds and they both promote the same amount of heat. Ceramic coating is more for lowering temps, but without it i dont think it'll add heat.

additional heat?

I run the American Racing long tube headers with high flow cats. I did experience some foot well heat. It gave me the perfect excuse to pull the interior and cover the floor and tunnel back to the package tray with Dyna Mat. Not only did it help with heat but also with road noise

When I went with the ARH I sent them to Swain and had them ceramic coated. No more heat and maybe just a little less.

I think the cats are mostly what gets hot. When I do a long pull I can feel the heat through the firewall. They stay hot since they have a lot of mass.

I think I'll get the uncoated headers, customize my bungs if required, then one off season if I feel like it send them to get done inside and out.

Thanks for all of the advice everybody.

I used to notice more heat from the heater core then anything. I put a valve on the heater hoses and it stopped. Now I just have no heater lines at all. As for the headers, I have only had coated ones. I always have them coated.

I have pacesetters, I noticed a little more after the install, but I feel like I always had a lot even with stock exhaust. If I had to do it all over again I would definitely get ceramic coated, I don't have any experience with them on cars, but I know it makes a huge difference on bikes.

Installed titanium ceramic coated JBA LT's and mating JBA hi-flow cats on my 2010. Eng bay temps dropped at least 40 deg F. The oem cats would hit 1850 F at wot..and ditto with the high flow cats. Problem with oem cats is...they reside at the base of the eng bay. The high flow cats reside aprx directly below the seats.

With the blower on... 3 blocks from home.... once in the driveway, after eng shut off for 3 mins, I can push down hard with 4 fingers, on any of the 8 primary's..and hold em down. You sure as hell won't do that with any un-coated exhaust. The theory is exhaust gases inside the coated LT's run hotter..and flow faster...enhancing their effect.

How much of the eng bay heat redux comes from the coated LT's and how much comes from not having oem cats at base of eng bay, I dunno.

IMO, ceramic coated SS LT's is about as good as it gets. They will last a long time, just use new FRPP header gaskets, with the D shaped holes.

JBA offers coated LT's in both silver ceramic, and also titanium ceramic. The titanium ceramic finish is more like battleship grey...and is rated for an extra 100 deg F over the silver ceramic version. You can barely see em once installed, esp on the driver's side with the CAI etc.

JBA suggests to replace the oem eng mounts withe steeda HD eng mounts..which I did. That also allows you the option of stock eng height, or lowering the eng in 1/4" increments. I lowered mine by 1/4". Lower the eng too much, and primary #8 will get too close or touch the steering shaft. Steeda also provides 2 x sets of mounting bushings, red / black. The black ones are stiffer durometer, and used for higher hp applications, so I used em. IF you had a shaker hood, it won't shake side to side, it won't budge.

I used the JBA catted H section, and the H is a full 2.5". The bullitt cars all got a 2.5" solid disc inside the H section..with a tiny 3/8" hole in the center of the disc... nuts. The 3/8" hole was for the..."bullitt exhaust note". You can also get a choice of either a 2.5" collector or a 3" collector. I opted for the 2.5" collector. Primary's are 1 5/8".

Swain coats a lot of parts, didn't see LT listed on their price sheet. Were you in the 4-500 range with them?

I found prices on swaintech, ~350 a side for long tubes.

Now, should I go with 2-1/2" or 3" collectors and mid pipe? Probably won't matter much - might go with 3" and then going down to my 2-1/2 cat back just so I have the option of doing 3" all the way back one day.

Thanks for the Swain pricing, missed it.

Jet Hot runs 400 and up for base coating, includes both sides.

I will install 3", understand getting stainless apart is a chore to separate.

Pretty sure it is $350 for both sides, not just one side. I had them do my shorties.

Swaintech and jethot are not close to being the same coating.

Swain made a lot of hay about their ceramic being indestructible. I liked what I was reading. Not sure if there's much to it.

I had a tough time getting the headers in and scratched the right side and thought I scratched some of the coating off but no way, just scratched the surface of the coating with no damage to the coating.

thanks for the info, I will contact swain about this, or just order the titanium coated headers - based on how rich I'm feeling that day I guess haha.

I put titanium ceramic coated JBA's on my dads Shelby and i think it dropped the engine bay temps. Definitely did not raise them, I know that's for sure. My boss had Kooks that got a super shitty coating job at some local place and it raised his under hood temps a bunch.

How did you measure the under the hood temp?
