So im just getting into autocross competitions, I went to the second auto x event last weekend and had a blast. Now that iv got the bug to go turn the wheel instead of going straight, im looking at modifying my 08 Bullitt for auto x competition.

Im looking at getting a second set of wheels and softer tires for auto x/future track days only. My question is what are the recomended wheel choices for someone competing in F/S Auto x. From the rulebook it appears the wheels must be the same dimensions as stock, 18x8.5 for bullitt wheels i believe, but can be lighter. BBS wheels are out of my price range and im trying to stay around the $300 per wheel range. Also what offset and backspacing?

My plan is once wheels are selected, im going to put 255/35-18 RE-11's on for the rest of the season and upgrade to Hoosier A/R compounds next year.

Thanks for any advice, im new to the whole turning the wheel racing and any advice is helpful

I'll definently be checking out some of those books and the auto x tips by Andy Hollis already have some helpful tips

My biggest question is what wheels to go for to stay compliant with fs rules, iv examined some of the fast cars but didn't get the best look on any so I'm currently at a loss for which to select

you should really tune your skills with the car as close to stock as possible. then upgrade as you get better

I'm not at all familiar with the rules but when Sam Strano gets back from the Nationals he might answer your questions.

You can also go to the SCCA web site and have a look at the rules but if my memory is correct they can be somewhat confusing for a novice.

IMHO, I think that a competitive car setup for F-Stock would be to use Shelby GT springs (Eibach Pro-Kit), with Koni Yellows, and swaybars from the Shelby GT (Eibach Sways?). Run a factory 18x8.5 wheel with race tire.

Oh, and of course, seat time rules above all.

You got a bit of an advantage in F-stock over a GT because your bullit springs are legal despite lowering the car. My advice would be to keep the stock wheels and save the money to swap out the dampers (legal in F/S). You can get a 275 on an 8.5 rim, get as much rubber as possible. The RE-11 come in 275/40/18.
