Bearing was fine. Rod was bent and lightly twisted

A bent rod would make the same noise anyway. You were very lucky it didn't break and trash the block. No doubt the cylinder pressures were too high for the stock I-beam rods to cope, but the Manley forged H-beam rods you're planning to use should easily handle 600+rwhp.

I think it was hydro locked from the coolant leak in the manifold. But only affected that cylinder luckily

Was there any damage to the corresponding rod journal on the crank or did that escape unscathed?
At least the engine's rebuildable even if the damaged cylinder may need to be resleeved.

On mine the bearing was clean, until I dented it trying to knock the piston out. But rod cap bearing looked immaculate. Crank looks fine.

The bore looks like it maybe needs a bore over to clean it up, no sleeve needed.

I'm gonna tear it down completely later and run it to my machine shop to inspect and make sure it's fine. But to my eye there's only a little scuffing where the piston skirt was damaged but not bad enough to warrant a re sleeve. So now I have a spare block
