The fact that my noise started the second the rotating assembly was at the highest stress it sees leads me there as well. I really expected to see a trail of oil on the road behind me when it happened, but I didn't and since I kept oil pressure, etc. I had high hopes. You've crushed my hopes. I appreciate your help and look forward to any info you get after pulling your engine. And I still have hope someone can come up with some other solution aside from a rebuild to talk me off the ledge here...

Really sorry about those hopes and dreams of saving $$, but at least you arent looking around for a couple days for a solution.

Could always just get a stock rotating assembly if you had to and throw it back in till you could afford a full build

Or go balls deep and just eat light for a while, hah

Sounds like rod bearings to me. Had a 5.0 with a similar noise and my 13 GT500 had a similar noise. The 5.0 was the Cylinder 4 and 8 rod bearings completely gone. Never did take apart the Shelby, but after hearing the 5.0 I'm pretty sure that was the problem. I listened to it for hours and it was always loudest at the bell housing.

Thanks for the info. That sounds like a likely culprit based on the noise and that it still seems to run ok for the time being.

Sorry to hear, removed plugs?

I haven't removed the plugs. What am I looking for? I have a camera, but I don't think it's quite small enough to get all the way in a plug hole.

It definitely sounds like time to rebuild or sell.

I thought about that, but that's a lot of work for maybe not a big payback. Depends how much I could get selling it as a roller. Edmunds says it's not even worth $10k private party sale if it were in good running condition. I started a new thread in chit chat to try to figure out what to do. I'm just depressed...

Check the plugs first to see what they show, post pics. It smokes?

It doesn't smoke. I might pull some plugs tomorrow to see what they look like. Thanks for the help.

If plugs are complete, not oily, you don't have a leak, no oil on water or viceversa maybe a bearing or something on the valvetrain.

I say this because I've seen similar sounding engines with valvetrain issues that were easy to solve.

Best of luck.

Thanks - maybe there's hope for it. I'll talk to my local guy Monday and will probably take it over to him and see if he thinks it can be sorted relatively easily. Unless he thinks it's easy, will probably just have him drop in a used motor and return to stock to sell.

My valve train looks fine, so does the timing set. Nothing looks out of place like it's broken or anything. And like I said the audio test I did leads towards rotating assembly sure to spikes per second.

Checkout my thread.
Bearing was fine. Rod was bent and lightly twisted

Ouch! That would do it. I haven't pulled my pan off the motor but the old motor is out and the new one is running. I wouldn't be surprised if I have a bent rod as well.

Pull the pan and let's "compare rods"

Bahaha

I'm impressed with how it bent and didn't just shatter
