Best OEM tire replacement

06 Gt Premium with stock 17's, right now the Perelli's are on there last leg. What's a good tire to replace this with? What size should I run? Stick with 235/40/17's ? Thanks for any advice.

i got nt555 and bumped to a 255/50/17.. could go to a 265 max..but nitto dont have a 50 wall in a 265:-(

I've been wondering the same thing myself. But, I think there are a few things to consider - how are you going to use them? DD? Some track time? Year round (do you see any snow or sub 40 degree weather)?


Are you looking for something specific? If you could change something about the way the OEM's handle, what would it be? Do you have a budget?

Your factory size is 235/55/17. If you are wanting to go bigger, 255/50/17 nitto's are a good choice.

i switched to Toyo Proxes 4 w/nitogen, and imo are better than the perelli's, plus they were a couple hundred less. i use them as dd from april til november

There are quite a few things to consider...

Did you like the stock tires overall? Anything you would change about them?

What are your plans for the car? Any AutoX, 1/4 mile, or road course use planned? Do you drive it the car snow or rain regullarly?

I plan on going to the track, does 275/40/17 on OEM bullet's work? What for the front 255/45?

I ran 255/45R17's on my '98. They were a great all around tire. I am seriously considering them in the 255/50R17 size on my factory wheels for my '05. Relatively inexpensive too. If not those I may go to a BFG Touring tire as I would only run them on a trip because I plan to get Race Star's at some point.

Why not just run a 245/45/17? It's a cheap size and its not as tall as stock.

I want as much tire in the rear as I can fit. I eventually will upgrade to either a 10" or 11" wide wheel in the rear. If I go to 18's I'll probably go with Hoosier or MT.
