It's raspy because of the X pipe. Get an H pipe or a Prochamber if you don't like the raspiness.

na, i got the same set up he has but with an h-pipe and same deal about 1/3 throttle low rpms they almost sound like there is a baffle broken inside the muffler. i love the sound of the 40's but that little bit of rasp drive me nuts. plus i think i want something louder, people always tell me that me car is very quite for not having cats. i need more volume.

the s197 will never sound like a 5.0 or the 2v modulars. i have a 1992 LX, and it sounds totally different. IMO the s197 sounds better, louder, deeper, more evil sounding. my set up is BBK LT's and o/r x pipe, MBRP muffler deletes, M80's welded in before the rear end. i also believe that with the muffler being after the axle, gives more of a tendency to trumpet.

in this one i compare my s197 to my fox, most people like the sound of the fox better, but i prefer the s197. i added this in bc the s197 will never sound like the older stangs, and i dont think we should even try to duplicate it bc it aint gonna happen.

I think that little fox sounded better.
It had that howl I am looking for. I guess they will never sound similar.

I miss my old stangs.

Hard for a s197 to touch a DOHC 4.6 with long tubes and an x-pipe.
A well put together small block push rod would also put a 3v to shame.

In my opinion.

It's tough to get that old school sound. I think my set up with a prochamber is as close as I'm gonna get to it. I should get some video of my ride in a fly by. I like the sound from the inside, windows up or down.

By the way, your sig pic is pretty nice. Good composition, and it paints a bigger picture than whats actually in it. It's cool.

I have the stock exhaust.... with an off road JBA LT.
It's kind of quiet, deep. Nice for a DD with cops everywhere. But don't go pass 2500 rpm. Because after it scream loud.

I'll take a vid of my sound tonight when I get home. I love the way my car sounds now.

I have the Pypes off-road H, 2 resonators (glasspacks) welded in just in front of the rear axle and then flowmasters. I had the glasspacks installed to get rid of the trumpeting sound. I get a lot of compliments on the sound. it's not too loud while your cruising or idling, but when you get on it, it sounds like a Mustang should sound (at least in my opinion)
