Didn't even get out of 2nd gear she caught traction and blew up oil everywhere...any ideas for a bullet proof rear end?

My TrueTrac finally gave up the ghost, so a Detroit Locker is going in as I type....

Wow that sucks, but you gotta pay to play.. Just a perfect excuse to mod it =). Interested in the pix when you get the car back.

the pictures are going to be pretty awesome actually i have a feeling there is a pretty big hole in the bottom of the housing...not thrilled this happened but this is racing...if you aren't breaking shit you ain't goin fast enough i guess

If I was starting from scratch (which sounds like you might be doing) I'd at least do some research on some of the bolt in 9" housings. I still like the 8.8 myself but if you're starting with nothing, I'd at least look into it.

Good to see everythings working out for you. the 8.8 is very strong too, im surprised yours went. a truetrac is a nice mod, i run one myself and it works everytime!

Like above said, now you have an excuse to build it stronger!

I agree, you're starting from scratch and you have to pay 711 just to start with a 8.8 again, might as well look into a bolt in 9".

What you do at the end of the track is your own business...

Man i thought the truetrac was stronger then the locker.

Read up on traction aids, the detroit locker is a much much stronger than the worm gear style tru-trac..... honestly the tru-trac is a POS and is alot like the GM design of the limited slips (F-bodys and what not)..... and yeah they stuck too in my opinion.

And nice vent hole in the housing....... does that increase MPGs??? I want to know more about this mod.

I have to disagree with you sir, i believe the Detroit trueTrac is not a POS... Infact, i really like mine, works evertime and i trust it 110%. Im not bashing you at all, just stating my opinion on the product. The Locker is a great unit as well, which ever the OP goes with he will not be dissapointed.

Basically the difference between the Locker and the TrueTrac is, the Truetrac uses a worm-gear as u stated and the Locker uses a clutch.

Granted its not really a POS it does work, but I'm just one of those purist kinda people and I'm all for a full on locker. Its simple and damn near bomb proof. I come from more of a back ground building jeeps, trucks, and what not and I have installed a few tru-tracs per owners request and they later put detroits or ARBs in them. And when they go boom... its really really bad and most the time nothing is salvageable, from my experiences with them. And redfire are u running a really sticky tire?

I can see where your coming from with the offroad style vehicles and using a locker over a truetrac. Both are made form the same company so i would trust both. & yes i run a Mickey Thompson DR at the strip. Alls im stating is whichever the OP goes for, he wont be dissapointed.
