Hot rod camshafts. i need to order the cam bolts does anyone know the best place to order them for cheap?

Also i found a slight bump on one of the cams by where the cam caps bolt down. WIll i be ok or should i file it down a little its very small but i dont want to jack up the head when i turn it on for the first time.

I wouldn't take a file to it if it's on the journal, take it to a engine shop to be polished out.

Ok cool thanks the cam bolts i found for 25 bucks shipped is that a good deal i see alot of places are 30 shipped. But two bolts for 30 bucks seems pricey

Just show them the spot and it should take them about 10 minutes to chuck it up and run some emery cloth on it. Unless they are pitted up, rusted or otherwise damaged you shouldn't need them checked out. I don't know how much experience you have, but I've built enough engines to know the phrase "do it once, do it right". It will save you $$$$ down the road.

yea i got a hell of a deal on them so i said i could make them work i think. Ill get the spot polished not a big deal there isnt any rust or anything weird not pitted either. just got a contact spot on one journal. I was a little worried. But you guys gave good advise.

So wont need anything other then the cams bolt and should i re use my oem cam cover gaskets or get felpro new?

you can reuse the cam cover gaskets if they look good. make sure you put rtv sealant in the appropriate places before putting the covers back on.

love the hot rods, been running them since 2008, always make me smile.

Yea got them for super cheap so i figure no phaser changes and plays well with stock springs, also sound good so screw it. I just hope they pick up 15hp at least.

OEM gaskets are best and they usually come off without tearing. Not like the junk cork gaskets on the old stuff... Treed by hammeron

My guess would be not cheaply. I went through that with my 01. It's one of the reasons I got rid of it.

From what I understand from a smog ref is that the ecu (Spanish oak) doesn't snitch on you like newer ecu's. However, any smog tech with half a brain can tell the car is cammed with the lope that will be present with the hot rods. That would be an automatic fail. Long gone are the days where a $50 or $100 bill would get the shop to look the other way with the big fines these places face now.
