As I've said in previous threads, I've had issues with my MT82 trans. It's had a horrible whine since day one, which has progressively gotten worse. Shifting has always been a little notchy, but, not as bad as what others seem to be experiencing.

I have NOT had any clutch issues.. Upon pulling the trans, the tech noted that the pressure plate bolts where tight, and I checked everything out. The clutch shows almost zero wear. The pressure plate has no hot spots/glazing at all. The car is not driven hard at all. I've beat on it a few times, but, my wife mainly drives it to/from work.

The car has 5K miles on the clock, and I bought it with about 100 miles on it. It was a dealer transfer from Veterans Ford in New Orleans, LA. It has made noise from day one, and I think that there may have been some damage done before it arrived. This was obviously thier test drive vehicle, as it had some mileage on it when it arrived.

Anyway, here's a few pics..

Lots of shavings in the oil..

Broken throw out bearing. Was "clicking" and making a little noise..

Front of case, Input shaft/bearing for main shaft

Rear of case, output shaft and main shaft bearings.. steel shift forks

Here's the broken bits..

Magnet with TONS of shavings and bits of teeth..

I counted 8 broken teeth on the synchro gear.. I'm pretty sure that's the part, anyway.. That's a good bit of shavings for a trans with only 5K miles of use. Ford is asking the tech to figure out how much it would cost to rebuild it. The tech is mad because he wants them to send a new trans. I don't blame him.. They only pay 7 hours to fix it.

and i would want a new one anyways, not a rebuilt one, they will only replace parts that are obviously broken, everything else will be the same old parts, that had broken peices of gear and shavings running around and through them..
raise hell get a new one.

Hotline is making the tech rebuild the trans.. So, he's replacing everything. I don't really care, as long as it works and doesn't make noise when I get it back. I've been without my car for 2 weeks at this point.. I just want it back. :(

Not sure.. I wasn't there for the tear down.. I'll look at it tomorrow when I stop by.

There dealership is p*ssed about this.. They want a new transmission, but, Ford is insisting upon fixing this one. I'm going to stop by tomorrow morning, and get on the phone via conference call with customer service, and see if I can raise enough hell to get a new trans. This is ridiculous.. brand new car, and I'm fighting about a damn transmission for 2 weeks.

Mine sounded like a twin screw/eaton.. it was loudest when warmed up. Definitely noticeable, even over the radio/road noise.

The dealership recieved all of the parts in today.. Basically, everything is being replaced except for the transmission case itself (no reason to). So, it SHOULD be quiet.. Hell, it'll probably be put together better than the ones in China. ;)

I'm on my second MT82 (with the DCT transmission fluid) and after only 1 week it's already crunching in 2nd and 3rd again.

I wish I had bought an auto now. I haven't had any major issues with the manual but I hate having the potential issues hanging over my head. I worry too much as it is.
