Built SB, same comp ratio, re-use tune?

In order to take this car to the next level I'm looking at a full fuel system upgrade, clutch, headers, tuning, shortblock, heat exchanger/pump, etc.. It's a lot of money. An easy 10K. So rather than doing it all at once I was thinking it may be possible to do just the shortblock and the clutch. Would cut the expenditure in half.

FRPP makes a stock compression 9.8:1 aluminator. Re-use factory headers, cams, and heads.

If I were to go that route would I need to have the car tuned or could I just use my existing tune? The engine would essentially be the same as it is now minus forged internals.

Every engine is different, would not risk it. Might as well get it checked out, it may be spot on, it may not...

Awww that sucks. If I'm forced to re-tune then maybe this isn't a good idea. I would be paying for tuning twice since the car would need it again when I upgraded the rest of the parts later on.

Been running KB's factory stage 1 tune for a while now.

If it's a Kenne Bell tune, there is likely going to be plenty of safety built in. Since you aren't drastically changing the amount of airflow going through the engine, I wouldn't anticipate it needing a re-tune.
It would be a good idea to put it on the rack and verify that the A/F is fine but I doubt that the KB tune would be aggressive enough to worry about the timing.

Should work no issues, I would suggest you to check your AF before and after, so you can compare.

when i swapped out my shortblock with no major changes my original tune was still spot on but definitely keep an eye out on afr

I really recommend to do the pre-post thing as possible, so you can have a proper comparison, if by any chance after you do it you find it being on the lean side you will ask yourself if it was already like that before.

I will. I have a wideband (aem w/bosch sensor) but have never logged it because I have to make some special cable to hook it up to a laptop. I just watched it during pulls to make sure it got into the 11s like it should.

I know a tuner with a tail pipe sniffer but wasn't sure what to think about it. It read leaner than my aem when I had the car on the dynojet.
