Do any of you have a suggestion for mounts to use that will let these phones record video while collecting data? Specifically an iPhone

(for iphone) I have a mount that I got at best buy that was made for a Megellan GPS. It plugs in to charge as well as has the GPS enhancer (supposedly). I really dont see where it helps the GPS, but it holds the phone steady enough to video while auto xing. That is what I was using until I got my go pro. However the best bluetooth adapter I have found for the iphone is $99.99. The ELM 327 adapters from what all the reviews say will not work with the iphone only android. TrackAddick for $6.99 looks like a good app, just need that adapter.

The one in that article is a Bracketron windshield mount. You can position it in such a way as to let the phone's camera "see" out the windshield.

I'm sorry, it wasn't a Magellan, mine is a Tom Tom car kit from Best buy! I lucked out and found mine on sale for $39.

So does anyone have any reports on how well there app + bluetooth is working?

I used mine the weekend while auto xing. The video app w/data overlay seems to work really well. The mapping out of the track is spot on along with the video/timer shut off at the finish line. I really haven't mastered all the functions yet, but so far I really like it.

iPhone 4s
Trackaddick app
GoPoint Bluetooth adapter.

i've used harry's lap timer for iphone and it was useless without a gps signal booster. an utter waste of time. i would like to try it with a signal booster to see what the difference is.

at laguna seca, the gps was so far off that it couldn't even recognize the fact that i passed the start/finish line, so i had a 14 minute lap during one session. doesn't help me much.

Mine mapped out the track almost perfectly. It does require on the "segment" mode to stand on or near the finish line and set the coordinates. It starts by motion detection. Haven't tried it on "circuit" mode. It read my Rpms, throttle input, g's, etc. pretty well. However the gps did not keep up with my changing speeds well at all, as far as recording the speeds on to the data overlay. I ended up getting my GoPoint Bluetooth adapter for $69 on their website. It was $99 every where else including amazon.

look at this short video. the only thing that worked was the timer, which wasn't even triggering on laps. i started almost right next to the start line (i was in pit lane), so i thought things would be okay. guess not. i'll give it the benefit of the doubt: the phone is doing a LOT of stuff while recording and datalogging, so it could have been a little "overwhelmed." data only (read: no video recording) may have yielded better results.

Nice video though. Nice piece of driving too. How do you do the pip video? You combine the footage from your go pro and yor iPhone? What are you using to edit with?

How many data perimeters were you logging? The TA app that I am using says that the less you log the more accurate it will be! Also, something in the area could be interfering with your gps signal. IDK.
