S197 Forum Members,

I am selling my stock Coyote motor and I'm including the stock ignition coils, in that sale. This means I need to purchase a new set for my new Coyote motor and I narrowed it down to few choices. I was wondering if anyone here has any experience with these brands or exact part numbers, even. I would appreciate any advice.

FORD RACING 5.0L COYOTE IGNITION COIL SET
M-12029-M50C - $300

ACCEL SUPER COIL ON PLUG KIT
140060-8 - $446

PERFORMANCE DISTRIBUTORS S.O.S. COIL ON PLUG KIT
31650 - $297

MSD BLASTER COIL PACK KIT
MSD-82488 - $308

Thanks,

HPE800

I tried the MSD coils. They weren't bad. No noticeable gains but the car did seem to rev happier.

Stock coils are fine for over 1,000 HP so why bother with an aftermarket brand?

So I decided to go with the:

MSD BLASTER COIL PACK KIT
MSD-82488 - $308

*I will let you guys know how they work out. They cost $8 more than stock and you get an MSD product; I said why not. I do appreciate everyone's feedback and advice.

Thanks,

From my experience with all mustangs the stock coils are the best and aftermarket just isn't worth it

I wonder if the specific requirements for sparking a mod motor (dwell and discharge time in particular) are even taken into consideration by the aftermarket.

So far there hasn't been an aftermarket coil that can last.

And the Ford set can be had in the $280-range which would've made even more sense

Think about how many coils Ford has produced (or had produced to their specs) versus how many ford coils have been made by MSD. I'm going to jump on the bandwagon here and also say the Ford coils are the best bet. This has been discussed several times here and the stock coils always come out as being the most popular, especially amongst the turbo and supercharged crowd.

I'm going to guess the OP came here hoping to get affirmation on the choice he already made but didn't get it. He didn't want our opinions or advice.

10 minutes after he posted the thread he got a confirmation post from someone who signed up a year ago and finally decided to make his very first post here. That was enough to sway him because every other person said to buy stock coils. What a joke.

Oh well. We try to help but sometimes it falls on deaf ears.

I wish I could go back and redo everything I've done to my car that was worthless or that got changed out.

Once I bought a set of Granatelli coil plug wires. Basically they are stainless cable with ceramic centering rings. They plug in between the coil and spark plug. Comparing them with the spring that comes in stock coils it's a big difference. They never hurt anything but they never helped either. Just another solution to a non existent problem.

MSD coils on LS motors suck balls, and wouldn't expect any better on Fords. You need to actually order extra parts and wiring upgrades just to prevent misfires with MSD coils at stock power levels while stock GM coils will make 1500+rwhp. I've never messed with the Ford ones, but there is zero reason to run anything but OEM coils when Ford and GM coils prove time and time again they work perfectly in 1000-1400rwhp applications and MSD coils prove time and time again they are junk at 400-500rwhp.

For what it is worth, the Ford Racing coil packs are OEM coil packs. I got mine from Tasca @ and were 247.50
