Do you have any idea how you are going to get your hands on the intake tube from a CJ? I would imagine that you would be able to make your own intake tube using the specs from a CJ tube but idk if that would be legal for the class. DO you have to be 100% CJ from the engine to the rear end to run in the class?
NHRA rules on "air cleaners" is that they are optional or you must retain OEM. They can be cut of trimmed, but no fabrication. A lot of EFI stockers/superstockers just run aftermarket speed density EFI and get rid of the whole thing, just have an open throttle body. I don't want to go that route, so I need to get that plastic elbow somehow, the 123MM MAF housing they do sell already.
You don't have to be 100% front to rear. Any Ford trans with same number of forward speeds, any Ford axle assy. An 8.8 should be quicker than the 9" axle. They do allow a 2 speed auto in place of a 3 speed and vice versa. I think I'm going to start with a PG or as Ford called it in the earlier blown CJs, a "C-2" transmission. A C-4 just isn't the best 3 speed, so I think minimal if any performance difference compared to the right PG, and the PG is going to be far more reliable and easier to hook. I could be totally wrong about that of course, only one way to find out.
