Comp Cams 127200s

Hi gentlemen,

I'm pretty much done fully bolt on my mustang and I think its time to go on to the next step, cams. I've been doing quite of research on what cams to go with and I've come close on deciding on the Comp Cam Stage 2 127200s. I'm looking for the best performance, potentiality in power. I dont care if they are lopey or not. They can sound stock for all i care as long as they give me the gains. Goal is to get into the 11s.

So what you guys think of the 127200s? Are there any other cams I should look into? Let me know what you guys think. I've done research on this cams and did not find much reviews.

I have run them since 2008. They sound stock and gave me approx 25 horse gain iirc. No one here will vouch for these baby cams though. There are many others that make more power.

My 2 cents they are a nice cam.

My gains are on a 298 Stroker motor and Livernois limiters.

Those are a NSR [No new valve Springs Required], they have a little more lift over the stock cams so your gains will be limited.

The other cams are VSR [Valve Springs Required] or SPR [Spring Phaser Mod Required] and will generally net 2x what a NSR cam will.

As for power gains, I installed the Comp 127300 VSR cams and picked up 25rwhp over the stock cams, I then went to a custom grind and gained 20 more HP over the 127300's cams.

I am FI'd so I have no idea what NA gains would be.

The Comp 127500's would be a good choice, they are SPR so you'd need springs and limiters but you'd likely net 30rwhp.

As of now, I would like to stick with a NSR cam. And from what you've told me is seems like any NSR cam will net me approx the same HP/gains, right?

Also, is it worth goin to a VSR cam on the stock 3v heads?

I'm a fan of Hot Rods for NSR cams. They make decent power provided your tuner can tune for them. Ford originally made them for an off road race program, they aren't just for noise as is commonly thought. They really go well with long tubes.

Interesting.

The more and more i search I have noticed alot of people satisfied with the Hot Rods. They seem to perform great, for it being a "baby" cam.

If you are not looking for lope, dont get a lopey cam. You will have raw fuel smell you may or may not tolerate, these cams are not for everybody, there is people that is picky with smells, others don't care. Again, not looking for cam sound, stay away from HR, detroit rocker, thumprs, etc.

Higher lift cams are what provides the most power from the comp catalog.

Having said that, there a lot of people running 300s on stock springs without issues. I would do the 300s instead and a limiters just in case.

have you looked at the CMS stage 1 cams? If these were out when I bought my 127200's, I would have gone with them. I think they are the best NSR cams out there.

Its not that I dont want the lope. I just dont require it. And as for the smell, it doesnt bother me.

Yes! That was actually my choice of cam that I was gonna go with, but I recommended those to a buddy and he went ahead and purchase them (deeper pockets than me, lol). I don't care if him and I have the same cam setup, just wanted to see if there was something else out there that I can possibly try out and compare with him.
