Good 'Ol Afghanistan
Hey Corpo, Im living Edmonton (currently Afghanistan) Livernois is a great shop to deal with (im from Windsor, ont) and have some killer modular stuff. Your kit have the mahle's or the diamond pistons? I'm seriously thinking about getting one of there strokers when I get back. Good luck with your build

ok, time for a update. so my plan now is to go with a built shortblock at some point. but i have all this shit in my garage i may as well use until then. as you can see i have done some work. installed nitrous. controlled by a coolingmist smart controller. it is awesomeness, its a traction control window failsafe nitrous controler, monitors my wideband, fuel pressure, nitrous pressure, TPS, RPM, speed, and factors it all in. also it controls my bottle heater based off bottle pressure. and my BAP based off WOT and fuel pressure. thats just how i programmed it. sure the BAP is not really needed, but i got it cheap so whatever.

the intake manifold may be installed over the weekend (just so i can enjoy it for a day or two, lol. depending on my bamachip tune when i get it) but i leave for saudi again on augest 4th so i likely wont install the heads until i get home.

right now, like right right now. i'm installing my cams and doing a spring job on my new heads. i came up with one question. do i need to put lube on the camshaft bearing cap bolts? or any sort of thread lock? all the instruction i have read dont mention it, but i should ask to be sure.

They don't have to "make" anything. Manley makes a flat top piston for that combination that will yield 11:1 compression. It will have to be rebalanced though.

totally missed this post. I'm not sure what the deal is but they said they had to get diamond to make a custom set. Do know where I can find more info on the manly pistons? I'd like to do some compairitive research.

Don't need lube on the cam bearing bolts. Just lube up the bearings before installtion with fresh oil

so much for an NA build huh.... :beerdrink:
gotta link for that nitrous controller....my brother has his drag radial car nearly finished and we are looking for something to control the spray consistantly. that deal sounds awesome.
plus i'm on the fence where to go next on mine....back half and major weight reduction and try for 9's NA....or just say F it and go with a power adder like everybody else and nitrous is the first choice for me.

Well it's still na. The nitrous is just for a added kick ;) if I ever go with some sorta pressure pump fi. It's gonna be a twin screw. Which means well new cams anyway. And no more intake manifold. But I think I dig this nitrous thing.

Smart controller

oh yeah once you figure it out it displays only voltage and pulses in it's programming screen (on your pc) so you gotta figure out what 2.4 volts means in your say air fuel ratio. It's simple math though, cross multiply and devide.

2.4v=13afr

now you want to know what 15afr would be, so

2.4x15/13=2.77v

so you can program your do not spray voltage peak at 2.77v I have yet to figure out a way to cut the nitrous and leave it off if that happens. But I think I can use one of the ground outs to trigger a breaker or something in my arm switch line. Just don't have the time ATM.

I think you should mini tub that thing. And get nitrous :D you can still claim na that way. And you can still get that "I need more" feeling satisfied

oh and to update about my car, I started doing the spring job but found my spring tool to be faulty, so that is on hold until I get home. All I got done was torquing the cams down, lol. Did manage to shoot a spring across the room :( but freedomracingtools messaged me back with in 10 minutes of my message to them and has a replacement on the way. So far customer service is superb. I understand that in the manufactuing process faulty things get out once in a while.

Amen brother. If it's on the car it's being used thats the way i see it. i actually had a zex kit for mine and never put it on cause i was trying for 11's NA with the stock motor and didn't want the suspicion that it wasn't all real power :beerdrink:
well what i have in mind is a bit more than mini tubbing but it would still retain all the factory suspension points, firewall, tunnel but everything else would go...floorpans, rear frame and trunk metal along with the lower portion of the strut towers and front frame....basically a tube chassised car hidden under the stock sheetmetal. just gotta loose 1000lbs and i'm in the 9's:beerchug2:

small update

Intake manifold installed with a shiney new DIY oil catch can.

Springs changed to higher lift capible springs, head combustion chambers painted with VHT header paint, not cured yet.

Nitrous switch panel, nice and hidden, bottle can be covered with the carpet.

Anything higher compression is going to be custom order piece I'm guessing? Also I know 12:1 is right there at the point when you have to start mixing a lil 100 octane in with the 93 to keep detonation at bay after you've had it perfectly tuned. After searching like hell on here I've only found 1 high compression N/A engine build on this site. And using google I aint found anything on any 3v with higher than stock compression.

well i hit the dyno up. here is what i got na vs 75 shot n2o
dsc00496w.jpg

my shit is all over the place! looks like a god damn etch and sketch. this is the NA pull. whats up with my AFR?
dsc00497a.jpg

dsc00498p.jpg

here's the nitrous pull. the other pull looks worse. huge dip in torque around 5000. jim jr at jdm says its the phasers. input? the lean spike is the solinoid opening. i need more fuel pump.

does anyone think my o2 sensors may be fouled? causing the crazy ups and downs? i'm in the process of cleaning them.

doesn't seem to be making what i expected it to. the cams are basically 127600's with a 105 centerline instead of 112
