Coyote and 4.6L Motor mounts identical?

Hi Guys,

Mid coyote swap, I've got the new coyote engine on an engine stand and i'm installing the headers and motor mounts. Brand new Kooks 1 3/4" headers and they are crashing on the passenger side motor mount.






I've read many times in coyote swap threads that the motor mounts are the same so i'm not sure if the engine mounting brackets are dissimilar between 4.6L 3V cars or if Kooks screwed up the header geometry. Anyone know if the mounting brackets are identical?

I checked around, at a minimum, the part numbers for the 05-09 motor mounting brackets are different than '11-17. Hard to tell from the pictures I've seen but there are a few subtle geometry differences. I'm going to go ahead and order a set and see how they fit before I break out the hammer but, if that time comes, I plan to channel my inner-Thor.

I reused my 3V motor mount brackets and BMR motor mounts during my swap. I used stock headers though.

Well that's not encouraging - I have read reports a long time ago that some of the Kooks were having clearance issues but we'll see...

How far off are you? Grind the mount or clearance the header, neither one will hurt you.

That's honestly what I was planning to do if the 2011 motor mount bracket doesn't resolve the issue. Will try the new bracket first - if no good then I'm going to grind that crap off and return the bracket.

That has definitely crossed my mind!

I've read so many mixed reviews about NVH that I honestly don't know what to believe about their pros/cons

What's your experience?

Several people have had issues with Kooks. They either fit like a glove or dont fit at all. Also their quality has gone down hill. Get ready to have to weld up holes in the header tubes.

Hi Guys,

For what it's worth to anyone in the future, the 2011+ Motor Mounts, while sharing the same mounting holes, have a slightly different casting that enables substantial header clearance with a coyote header. Hard to tell from the side by side pictures, but the far left rib on the passenger-side motor mount bracket curves in almost 3/4" more than the 4.6L engine bracket.

Everything fits like a glove with the right motor mounts...

You could also cut the old style mounts like the red line I drew on your picture.
