Speaking of metal shavings...Quick seriuos question. Did you reuse your oil pan? The baffles where they are spot welded collect a ton of shavings under there when the engine comes apart like that.

Thats eass, leave black lines for the first 1500miles

Close lol

What heat range spark plugs were in there when it let go? (I'm not implying this had anything to do with your motor letting go) because they looked pretty warm. Maybe some TR7s or maybe even 8s would be in order?

It had Ford racing one step colder plugs. The ones that come in the ford racing whipple kits. I'm going to go with NGK 1 step colder iridiums this time. I'm pretty sure they are LTR7IX (6510)

According to the AllFordMustangs.com owner's manual, proper break-in requires driving as slowly and gently as possible never getting over 2,000rpm, then changing the oil after 18.3 miles to remove all metal shavings. Then immediately visit your service department to diagnose that strange ticking noise!:thumb:

Won't have to worry about that lol

That is a good question. My old oil pan had a hole in it lol. I got a new pan, gasket/windage tray, pickup tube, and pump. Cleaned the valve covers and heads and timing cover so I'm hoping there's no metal left.

Now thats looking much much better. :)

Thanks!

I agree it is not exactly aesthetically pleasing. I guess if I had a machinst do it, it would look better. You could probably just use a Bridgeport and get the same thing done in less time and it would look better. But its pretty basic, the roller hits the head so you grind a little off. Be nice to see a later '12 head or a '13 head to see if the notch really is bigger.

Or are you referring to the chamber?

Mainly the top of the head for the cams. However, there are a couple of pits in the chamber that would have me concerned. You want that to be as smooth as possible with no rough edges. There is a fine line as to how much you can take out without affecting the compression in relation to the other cylinders. Was it cc'd to compare against the others? If so, how much was the difference post clean up?

I tend to be a perfectionist and may go above and beyond what would be considered OK so I am probably knit picking it more than it should be.

I think I will bring it down to one of your meets or whatever after I get it running. I know I will be anxious to drive it around a lot.

Yeah I was/am pretty nervous about that too. I don't think he cc'd them to compare before and after. Nothing wrong with being a perfectionist lol. Mike pretty much said as long as there is nowhere for it to "light off of", I believe he meant places to become a hot spot to cause detonation then it wasn't worth it to grind anymore and make the chamber further off, like you said really only so much grinding you want to do. Ideally getting a new head would have been the safest move, but I made the call to fix this one based on several people's opinions of its "not that bad"-ness lol. Plus that allowed me to upgrade valve springs and exhaust cams too. I really hope those show power gains.

come on brown santa with my clutch....

Bill, Can you take some really good pics of the headers near the heads where it bolts up so I can see how tight the spots are getting wrenches in there to tighten down these headers??????? Also a shot of the collector from the side and looking into the end of the header cone? I'm seriously thinking of getting these.

I only have those on there for show, I just put a few nuts on each side to hold them. They did not ship with gaskets and I am waiting on AM to send me some. I think I could reuse my stock ones but I thought these were supposed to come with them. Some of the nuts are easy, others are TIGHT. It would be no fun to do these with the motor in the car.

Here is the only pic I have of the collector on the inside, I will get you some more of the outside of the collector and where they bolt to the head later.

I like that flange pattern better than the 3v pattern. Those headers seem to seal a whole lot better than the 3v flange.

Details buddy details. Like getting some coin for ur troubles type excellent customer service?

Not quite that far, but they did help me out as far as inspecting the blower after the motor popped. I just felt like I needed to give them some props and I don't know a better place to do it than car forums.

I couldn't agree anymore with you! They are a top notch manufacturer, and customer service is second to none! I'm also running the same blower as you bro! as a matter of fact, mine is 001, I was lucky enough to have the car ready for them for development and research for the kit for the manual cars.

Wow that's really cool! So you probably have the welded lower intake with the washer spacers for the fuel rails (shown in the instructions) instead of the cast one like I got.

How does your car run? Power? Track times?

Thanks bro! yeah, this one has the welded lower and the spacers! The car runs great! my wife and I just came back from watching UFC 148 in Vegas, which is about a 500 miles round trip from Riverside, averaging 22-23 mpg, cruising it at 80ish(with the A/C on). I haven't ran it at the track with the smaller pullies, only with the 8.5psi, which actually reads 9.5psi due to the less restrictive 168mm tb. It has gone 11.3s @123 and change with 91 octane gas, on our shitty Fontana track. On a track with a better D/A it should go 11.0s with the exact same set up. It currently puts down 550whp/[email protected] psi with 91, but when 5.0 Magazine did the tb article, they dopped it with Torco and it made 589/[email protected] and 637/[email protected].
The car must remain emissions legal for KB to get the emissions approval, so it has stock cats and H pipe, with a Pypes mid muffler set up. It also has the stock clutch and 3.73 gears from the factory. I know lots of people cringe at the thought of me still running the cats, but Ken assured me that as long as the tune is spot on, I got nothing to worry about! they (KB) have a couple of their company vehicles running blowers with cats that have over 100k!
I believe the reason why my car runs perfect is because Ken, and ONLY Ken tunes it! I know he shares info with Jon Lund, so I feel pretty safe about the whole set up!
They are an outstanding group of individuals, from Matt, to Mike, Nathan, Ken and Mr. Jim Bell!
I hope your rebuild is everything you are hoping for brotha! I don't know what I would do if the same thing that happened to you, happened to me!
