tremec standard 5 speed for me but it's my DD... but after racing my friend/co-worker in his stock auto i would almost like to have an auto and I have driven a stick my whole life. That damn auto shifts so fast it's unreal. If i miss a beat on that stick win goes to auto.

I have driven both, raced with both, and won/lost with both. I bought this car for the same reason I bought the last Mustang: to run an index class with the car. Due to the car being the only thing I owned (at the time) it was an easier choice to go with the automatic. Look...I know ME. I'm hard on equipment when I'm rowing gears and I can break shit better than most people. I've seen me do it. With the automatic transmission I can drive the car daily and go racing without worrying too much about the breakage. Plus, the damn traffic here in Houston is a bitch with a stick car.

I was tempted, mind you. The day I bought my '07 I found myself standing on the showroom floor staring deeply at the black Shelby GT. And the damn sales manager told me, "$32K since I know you're going to get us plenty of press coverage with it." Bastard. Only one problem......that damn third pedal. I knew I'd be doing R&D work for Tremec, Liberty, and G-Force instead of going rounds and winning races. Like I said.....I've seen me do it.

There's only one way I'm going back to a manual. That is for a dedicated dragstrip-only car and it will be a clutchless transmission. Period. I have tried to get a manual transmission bracket race class going here in Houston but there's really a bunch of dickheads who tell me, "Just learn how to drive and you can compete with the automatic cars." Typically, these are dickheads who were not racing at HRP when I won the Footbrake track championship with a Jerico-equipped Fairmont years ago. Still......when I'm done chasing points around the country it will be fun to get another Fairmont and a Jerico clutchless four speed. Might try a big block instead of another Cleveland this time.

2 of the top 3 2008 Pro Stick cars are manual trans Fox body Mustangs. Some of them are deep in the 8's running Lenco 5 speeds. I also saw an SN95 Turbo Manual 5 speed at MIR run 7.8xx @ 207 MPH on DR's.

If I'm not mistaken, the Lenco only uses the clutch to launch & you just pull each gear separately after that. I would consider it closer to an automatic than a standard.

I swapped out my 3650 for a 4R70W with a manual valve body & love it (except for having to pull it out tomorrow to get the OD band replaced). Still have to shift but don't need to deal with a clutch.

You are correct. I think some models have a sep shift lever for each gear too.

To be completely honest, in a race car, I would love to have a 4r70w or a c4 and 2.73 gears.

How is the the 4r70w on the streets? I hear the swap is fairly easy too.

proshifted manual = no clutch while rowing through the gears.

I have 5 speed myself and my 95 started with an AODE which ended up getting a 3550. It's to each their own...If I raced eliminations then auto hands down but like most people on here it's a driver and just fun to to drive the manual on the street. Hopefully mine will get rebuilt soon lol

Having a automatic vs standard is going to win. It is like the idiot who told me I can bench 450 lbs, and he was on the floor begging for me to stop kicking his ass.

The 4R70W is pretty good on the street. The wife hates the 1 to 2 shift because it snaps her neck! I don't find it terribly harsh but it does hit hard. I haven't been able to make it to the track but I can't wait to try it out. Had to pull it out today :mad2:. A lesson learned. Make sure the shifter cable is properly adjusted. Mine was out by one turn after dropping the pan to fix a leak from the shift lever & I burnt out the OD band. Spoke to Len at Lentech & he said it will burn in less than 2 minutes of driving if not adjusted properly. Swap is much easier than I thought it would be.

Montreal Qc,
TR3650 with a SPEC 3+.

If my car was a 1 dimensional drag car I'd probably go with an auto but for a street car that likes to take corners I'll stay with a manual.

My consistency isn't too bad when I don't have 2 right feet.

I really appreciate having an automatic at the drag strip.
Otherwise I'd prefer a manual for other driving around. But if I had to daily-drive in heavy stop-and-go traffic, automatic would be my preference.
