Just my :2cents:...........I tried the Op's method today to the T. I took the door panels off as well. From my experience the contact cement dried very quickly and I did the recommended 15 minutes but it seemed to dry too fast. I applied it liberally by the way. Anyways, it bubbled up in about 30 minutes so I pealed it back and sprayed some spray adhesive on it and it held perfectly. It might not last as long but honeslty if it falls off again, since I already cleaned that foam crap, it should only take maybe 15-30 minutes to do it again.

The key is to use spray adhesive made for fabrics, headliners, etc. I used the stuff made by 3m in June. No bubbling or repeeling.

Well got my door panels pulled and prepped for repair last night. I didn't take a before pic but trust me, their were several large bubbles on both panels where it came loose. A small wire brush took the old foam backing right off the fabric backing panel and then vacuumed clean. I have some 3M 80 Vinyl/Rubber spray adhesive that I'm going to use. Per 3M's site which lets you choose your two materials to bond this is what they recommend. Also did some net research and it's received great reviews in repairing door panels and headliners that are exposed to hot climates. Can't wait to try this out tonight. I also have some silver tinsel welt piping coming in to trim it out really nicely. ( A big thank you to the guy that posted the trim piping link!) Should look kick ass when I'm done.

Awesome. Let us know how it works and post some pics of the finished repair.

Well got the door panels done Saturday! They look great with the silver tinsel piping too. Had a not so good time with the 3M #80 adhesive. It just didn't want to seem to bond very well so I went out to Lowes and bought Loctite brand adhesive. Wow. That stuff is damn good. I used a bondo spreader and worked the material from the bottom middle up and out. Did a check this morning and no bubbling or anything. I think it's safe to say it ain't gonna come off anytime soon lol.

Should I even bother with contact cement? Looks like that's not the sure thing some have said. I've had horrible success with the 3M stuff, not matter what type I use.

The Loctite spray I used did the trick. It was only 9 bucks for the can. Marine grade and temp rated. Worth a shot for you.

I did mine the way that OP did and it didn't fully attach around the outer edge. Wish I'd just used this shit from the beginning! It seems to be hard at work! May have to go get some for this weekend.

Fuck me - just noticed BOTH of the doors on my GT500 are doing exactly the same thing. What a POS.

I have to wonder if leather "treatments" or Armor All type stuff is what's causing this to happen? I've had absolutely no problems whatsoever with my panels. Just a few weeks ago I used some Maguire's leather conditioner on my seats, and rubbed a little on the door skins. Now, my skins are peeling down. Coincidence???

I doubt it. I'm sure the problem is breakdown, just like the headliners in a lot of vehicles.

I think the issue is that the foam over time just disintegrates. I had the same thought as you but I used a lot of glue spray and it never passed through the fabric so I don't see Armor All doing that either. So far mine are holding up. That Loctite glue spray is the shit.

Ok, let me save everyone a lot of time, frustration, and high blood pressure. If your shitty door vinyl falls down, rip the shit off and bring your door panel to your local auto upholstery shop. Whatever they want to charge you, pay it. Because this spray glue bullshit DOES NOT work, no matter how much time you spend prepping things. Fuck wasting half a weekend doing this - pay to have it done professionally.

Roll bar welded up? Bring it to a pro.

Ring and pinion install? Bring it to a pro.

Rebuild your auto tranny? Bring it to a pro.

Door vinyl crap out? Bring it to a pro.

I took a headliner for my S-10 to a pro to have the material replaced. Watched them as they sprayed the glue from a spray gun, etc. They did a pro job. Guess what? Still fell off again the next year.

Just dropped my door panels off at an upholstery shop this morning. There are very few things I will pay someone else to do, and this is one of them. For some reason, this whole thing gave me the red ass.
