I will be ordering new drag tires in the next couple weeks, I was thinking about the MT 295/45/17's but lately have also been thinking about the MT bias ply ET streets.

What are the pros and cons of running a bias ply on the rear vs. the drag radial?

I never drive on them, always swap out at the track.
Also I just run my street tires on the front.

Well the bias et's will be a little more to control going down the track with street tires in the front, but thats how I ran them too. They will hook a little better then the drag radials in my exp, but there are also different track regulations once you are not using a radial tire. (atleast around here it is)

Either will work with an auto. Personally, I prefer bias (slicks) over DRs. They are lighter, and nearly always hook better. Plus, they last 3X as long for me, thus are much much cheaper to use.

I've had better traction with the bias slicks.
And +1 on the getting squirelly with stock radials up front!

On the other hand, what I liked about DRs was being able to drive to/from the track, and run them at higher air pressures. I'd rather use DRs, but traction is more important of course.

See that's the thing with our track the traction sucks lol . I was the same way I loved airing them up going run and driving home but a stick car and dr's don't work . Kenneth madman says DR's are faster IF they hook but slicks are more consistent . I can say this boley ran damn near the same speed & ET with his car on less boost and worse springs , now I know I drive like shit but the key difference was the tires I always ran dr's and he runs bias plys

bias ply for me too. i did get whirly at the end the more lower i had the air pressure but for a better 60' bias worked best for me.

i vote for bias plys if you want something that hooks nearly every time.. ive had mixed experiences with drag radials. bias plys were always a sure thing for me and ill use them next time im out at the strip..

I have always been a fan of DR's myself. Like mentioned above there is nothing like being able to go for a spin done the boulevard every now and then. Being in PA we aren't able to run Slicks or anything (trust me if we could I would be all over it.....lol).
:thanks1:

I have read a lot of posts on DR's vs bias ply's and plan to run DR's until I have a trailer and a truck to tow it. My only concern is running a DR in back with a bias ply skinny up front. Who has done this and how bad was it? I have looked for a 15" skinny radial and can not fine one in the size a want (28").

That's good to hear, the holeshots I bought have drag radials mounted on the rear and sportsman bias ply on the front. I really don't like that there aren't taller radials for the front skinnies.

When I ran DRs, my skinnies were bias (M/T ET Fronts). No problems.

Thanks Don.

Did you buy the ones that were in Ohio for $1,500?

No, I bought them a while back from another member on here. I wish I would have waited, I really want the revolver style the guy in Ohio has over the holestars. I think my wife would kill me if I bought them since I already have 3 sets of wheels.

Also bare in mind RWHP! If your pushing a ton of power a standard drag is better because stock transmissions may not last if your pushing them hard and hooking. I would rather go through tires than brake the trany.

Stock trans may be tough but only to a certain degree.
